The zoom range and maximum aperture obviously have nothing very spectacular, but the optical quality is much better than what the price might suggest that zoom. Stabilization and autofocus are satisfactory. Icing on the cake: the full range Nikkor, outside specialized optical costly macro, this goal is one that offers the highest magnification rate in close focus. It is therefore unnecessary to provide other accessories to capture the small flowers, insects and other strange mushrooms. The 16-85 is not bad either, of course, but much heavier and ... at least four times more expensive!
