Quick and relatively straightforward

To repeat the technical data here would be mischief that are so detailed and precise in the product description. I will confine myself to prefer the operation and handling.
There is a quick start guide that shows how to connect the LinkStation to the PC or the network in a few images. This is done quickly, then the station can be switched on. Included is a CD, the software that is needed when installing in part, some is optional (such as the backup application). Without the installation of CD on a PC on the network did not show up in my system (Windows 7 and Windows 8) the drive in Explorer. After installation, it was visible on all five connected PCs.
Deciding whether you want to run Raid 1 or Raid 0, you should take before data is stored on the station. I had first test, be copied a few directories on the Buffalo and then 0 to RAID 1 changed from factory default Raid - with the effect that the data has been erased.
All the necessary settings may be configured on the surface, which is provided in the installation. Most of this is self-explanatory for experienced PC users, but there are also a very detailed PDF manual, which can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. If you want to have quick information about a particular keyword, the fact is then very helpful.
Access to the Buffalo hard drives on the network is significantly faster than when I used to date Stora station that had only 2 TB of storage space (and also in RAID 1 mode is running). However, the Buffalo station is thanks to its fan also clearly audible. "According to" would be the wrong word, but a permanent noise from the fan is not to be missed.
I also tried to access the Smart TV from after I had turned on the media server function. The TV listed the Buffalo station immediately, the access was again clearly faster than in the Stora.
To access the data over the Internet, I have not tried because I do not need the function. The backup program I have not installed because the existing data protection with the new LinkStation had no problems.
My conclusion: Quickly installed, clearly in the operation and configuration and that at a very reasonable price for the 8TB total capacity - because you can not complain. thumbs up!
