Unpacking:
----------
A day later, in the post: An Amazon cardboard with a small blue box in which the navigation system and its accessories and some 50 small quick-start instructions are squeezed into all languages. On the box also a kind of "Pack List" Amazon is glued, in particular giving what condition the unit is ("B") and that the accessory is (everything in it) completely.
The device itself I think is in perfect condition, no scratches, no grease stains.
The hardware itself with matte-low-resolution screen, rear USB, microSD slot side, it seems to me rather moderate standard. Thus Navis since 6 years. But there are indeed the inner values that count.
Commissioning:
---------------
After the registration (which otherwise runs as in the booklet explains), I also see that the device has already been registered by the previous owner in June 2012. It can be seen online three sets on cards. At startup, it complains every card that are not connected, but I see the map and navigate. Also you have to rubber-stamp the EULA every time after a cold start. Contact with support that we have to do so. Ok, I can live with. In Navimenü about cards I see only one set of cards. The internal memory is 8GB lush, of which only 800 MB are free. I invite equal a software update and map updates it (takes I place nor the consumption of eco-route.
The Dremel Quick Start Guide is as good as useless. First of all I try out intuitively to use the device. Later I read even the online PDF. That explains much, but not everything. Meanwhile, I have also read the online PDF from 3590, gradually I understand all functions of the device. I would even call the IT-savvy and come quickly clear with new appliances. The abundance of functions Navis is as amazing (number menus, buttons on the screen, context-sensitive settings, functions and features). On the Navi also a guide ("Help") is stored, which is a bit inconvenient to use.
The extras such as Audible Player, 30-day demo dictionary, Photo browser, Unit converter are rather useless. Since there is no audio output is present, even the lack of MP3 player does not matter. Audiobooks can not hear it at determined. To test which I have copied (* .aa format), did not go. Supposedly it can only use * .aax files. Conclusion: crap.
The display is very bright, the speaker very loud. You can adjust everything. The phone comes very quietly in speakerphone, full blast despite the audio mixer. Is that because of echo cancellation?
In the car, the Garmin as its two predecessors sits wedged in the unfolded central tray on the dashboard of my Skoda Octavia. This looks like installed firmly, does not disturb the view and the cable length fits. Only the plug back down is a problem now. The NavGear had the side, I preferred.
I try also the voice input with navigation and telephone and am pleasantly surprised. It works right away, even while driving. Radio must be in silence. Whole addresses finds the device. You can almost do anything without the device touching. Simply speak loudly and clearly. It happens one beep if the command was understood. Like Star Trek, great :-)
Only Zolling and Solling he dislikes vary - it always comes Solling. Tips anyone?
Navigation is gratifying unobtrusive, I currently have a voice, the British. You can mute the edge, end navigation and retrieve traffic information. There is a drive menu (right most bar), a sort of on-board computer (tap tempo), turn overview (above tap).
The unit turns on when not in use after a set time from. So it saves electricity.
Review:
----------
After some routes so that I can already make some statements.
Disadvantages / problems:
- Bluetooth initially good, now unstable, (but not on mobile Komp.Liste - there are on it anyway very few!) - Loses the connection after a few seconds to re-connect the phone klappts, including numbers / Elected / miss etc., but you have this procedure well after each complete stop repeat; Mobile phone is a Nokia XpressMusic 5800. I can live with, the unit must not be permanently switched off completely so.
- Map no genuine 3D, not 3D buildings, mountains, bridges above / etc below that the NavGear had!
- No street names in the map, place names already, but only coarse (smaller places disappear in Zoom out quickly). Again, the NavGear was better.
- POI are indeed in the map faded, but diving on the map very very few on. I would like, for example, food, refueling, sleep, Parking ... (are to navigate but available). Was that NavGear better, which was useful.
- Cable is angled downward, thick and chunky. Is not really a problem, because it is not tied felt 100 times. However, it sits so bad in my shelf.
- "Cockpit" view will cost a lot of space below - information could yet Show narrow at the edges, wide enough, the display is yes. Just as the NavGear ...
- Additions have inadequate benefits - what for the photo browser to be good? Or a 30-day running dictionary? Who please use Audible and it may even aax? Lieber then a headphone jack and MP3 players for audio books integrate! Did I mention NavGear? He directed.
- Resolution display measly 480x272 - which is graphic Taschenrechnernivau. Was the NavGear but unfortunately too.
- Viewing angle dependence is very high
- Input highway, avoid etc. only in the global settings and not in the Route menu!
+ Fixed now: volume Handsfree is low -> now exactly as loud as voice prompts
- Alternative routes will be calculated invisible, then there are a few seconds 2 alternatives
- Route calculation takes a little long, but that's whining at a high level, because it is not a PC.
- Alternative routes unavailable for voice input, at least I found no way to do this.
- (Hourly time) Speed Warner has no tolerance. Tinkles from +1 km / h going on immediately.
- Routes are often taken on the highway too long, but that actually make all Navis so
- USB connection causes complete stop
- MicroSD jammed like fixed in the shaft because it takes then a fine mechanic screwdriver ...
- Navigation always requires city or town-street-number completely, no substring
- Address entry without lists, you can thumb through no results lists that are getting shorter, the more one enters
- The manual is almost useless, and no longer matches with the registration procedure. Online PDF is not better! I have now read the manual from the big brother 3590, there is much better explained.
- No PIN code lock
- The computer voice with street name does not sound good
- Announcements only go left or right, not half-right or half-left, or turn sharply. This could NavGear. Now I have to necessarily look at a map.
- Battery life short. The NavGear was even worse. All these features cost power, and the batteries are not larger.
- TMCpro only with cable. And I will gladly away.
Well, now the advantages:
+ Standby with lightning fast waking goes
+ Fast service and start, sensitive touch
+ Bright matte screen
+ Super faster and more sensitive GPS (what's installed? Madness!)
+ Voice input works well, even with POIs, home, town and many more
+ Loud speaker
+ Abbiegeansagen done early, will not be repeated 3 times (NavGear bugged so), but only just before the point again.
+ Supposedly 30 years map updates - more likely that by then the card format is not delivered
+ Bluetooth goes
+ Language goes, including names from your address book!
+ Quickly realizes that I drive in deviation and no longer wants to highway
+ Enter the address with the suppression no longer available letters without delay, as has plagued me NavGear!
+ Enter coordinates
+ Display satellite information and height
+ Optional board computer View
+ Many voices and car icons available, you can also interjected himself what
+ Card and device updates are managed online, compatible with Chrome.
+ Runs for "Low Battery" warning for a long time on. The NavGear brought the Message 5 minutes later, and then again. Whoever does not fast dranfummelt the cable because, unlucky. This is better with the Garmin.
Conclusion:
My main requirements in terms of speed can be fully met. The device is on a matter of seconds and ready for navigation.
The voice input is most accurate for some computing time. I do not have long to the device.
Navigate to any address works perfectly. Announcements come in discreet intervals, the Navi can drive me easily. Routes like to go on highways, alternatively on federal roads. Even through narrow streets in downtown it steers skillfully.
About the incomplete POI display on the map, not a true 3D with mountains can I ignore. Too bad that the screen resolution is so low. But the 3590 also costs a bar ... more
