- Dimensions and features:
the 710N is in all its dimensions one to two cm greater than the 702N, ie especially thick (about 28mm instead of 18mm). While that is still very compact, but now rather no part in your pocket more ... which is of course especially at the built-in power adapter (100-240V, 50 / 60Hz, 0.3A). What I had not realized from the product description is that the euro-plug attachment is not fixed, but is plugged (very stable). Theoretically, it could therefore give US / UK- plug attachments for (but never seen one). Because of the built-in power supply, there is then also not the micro-USB port of 702N but just the "normal" USB jack that not just for charging a smartphone / tablet (5V / 1A) can be used, but also USB accepts sticks and external hard drives and makes it available as a (Samba) share in its own network. Then there are the 2 LAN jacks; one is marked as LAN / WAN and establishes the connection to the Ethernet network. The second connector is then thought to be connected to another computer via LAN. A reset hole and the blue LED, there is also. Included is the very practical, 50cm long CAT-5 ribbon cable, which really needs almost no storage space.
- Features:
A Wi-Fi network on (with an individual "TP-LINK _ ******" SSID and an individual WPA2 - How many times wrote to 702N rapidly builds (especially not if anything to the USB port is dependent but not immediately) -key; 8 digits). A few seconds can be seen as a WEP network before it switched to WPA2. The settings and Keys seem to me safe enough and I left them so. The WiFi connection is better than I expected, I have in the whole (WiFi rays contaminated) Apartment good reception and even at 15m (Sichkontakt) still good rates. Right near I had stable 135Mbps. Easily is then routed into the local LAN network to the Fritz box. Exercise (previously only a Eisatz), there were no problems in the LAN to come. Under 192.168.0.254, the router can be reached directly (user = admin / pw = admin) and the browser (English pages) to configure. I have used only Android tablets and Ubuntu laptops; that connect to immediately and without any special settings ... I can say nothing about comic configurations on the PC or the supplied software on Windows. I think here the 710N does not differ much from 702N. What have I changed in the configuration of the router is the Wireless locale of United States switched to Germany to the right ("legal") frequency channels to use. Overall I am very satisfied with the "normal" functions and performance.
- Particularities:
The built-in power plug / the internal power supply are really very practical! Even if this is all a bit bulky, it is sufficient as fast a device to plug into a wall outlet and connect a LAN cable and you're done. Although then you can not pump iron to 710N with any USB port, but I do not see it as a real limitation because there where a LAN cable has, in general probably also current.
The second LAN socket seems somewhat questionable in benefit, but can for example replace a LAN hub, if indeed you want to span its WiFi network but wants to bring into the net one or two (more) devices wired ... or the WAN jack is connected directly to a DSL / cable modem. This possibly also rather used home router function actually the 710N aims over the 702N - easily transportable it is nonetheless.
The most important feature for me is the USB Share; the Samba server can not allocate USB sticks and external 2,5Zoll (USB3) -1TB-WD hard drive. Power is on the USB port yes enough available (the 1A certainly true when I look at the load time of a tablet at the port). The router can sharen media files as a media server - which I have not tried. The server has an admin and guest user account. The latter is set by default to read-only (but you can reconfigure). The USB device with its partition will appear as "Volume 1" - probably can also buy several USB partitions / devices are being used - I have to try yet. In Wi-Fi is available under the Share 192.168.0.254 easily visible (at least of Androids / Ubuntu) and of the various devices on the WLAN. I hang but via LAN to the router, I see the Share not (?) I have to try something else, or even read well :)
Totaly a strong buy recommendation for anyone who wants to have some more features than the 702N and may take slightly less tiny proportions in purchasing.
