I bought the S3 as "successor" of my S2, which with a nightly build the Cyanogen Mod 9 was at this time (ie Android V4). One of the main features that this was important in S2 me was the battery life.
Towards the end, I managed to make S2 in the night Airplane Mode to run on 10 days without WiFi and active data transmission (with the Erstakku the device). A very good performance.
As a selling point of the S3 was the one
- Successor model
- Higher battery capacity of the battery
After the purchase, I realized that the Galaxy S3 is really a successor: Samsung has worked on almost all the weaknesses of the S2. For this respect!
The lack of the S2 status LED is built into the S3 (is hardly mentioned, but is clearly a plus, if you even get a text message here and there and the sound is not aware).
The battery lasts about twice as long compared to my elderly S2 battery; In other words: _mit_ data transmission keeps the S3 "are left" - ie without special usage - about 210h lt Battery Left.. Which is great.
Compared to the S2 Android V4 "ICS" is a lot of liquid to use. The otherwise very sluggish Google Play Store now operates without noticeable delay in the operation.
The 5 GHz WLAN module (yes, the S3 can like the S2 5 GHz WLAN with WPA2) is subjectively better than predecessors.
It should be noted in any event that the unit requires a MicroSIM!
The display looks compared to S2 slightly lighter in color. In lock screen New SMS messages are displayed. When one passes over the icon will directly open the SMS program (which Samsung has probably copied from Sense and sometimes improved).
Something is pointless to install Titanium Backup "root" on the phone, which was with it during delivery and of course, refuses to work at the start because not gerootetem phone.
The default Launcher from Samsung is a little unintuitive compared to other (delete widgets does not appear to be provided), which is why I've Nova Launcher on the device.
Many programs that are permanently installed by Samsung and "uninstallable" (Dropbox, ChatOn) want to separate declarations and act something like third-party software. In addition, countless "Infoprogramme" as HRS, taxi info etc. are installed, but they are uninstallable fortunately.
Note: Samsung used as opposed to HTC a kind of "internal" SD card to expand the system memory. That is, the memory is not loaded by applications. Disadvantage: The retractable SD card is addressed differently.
At the Galaxy S2 can be found under / mnt / EMMC under the Galaxy S3 in / mnt / extSdcard.
In summary:
Hardware:
+ Notification LED
+ Higher mileage than Galaxy S2
+ Gorilla Glass 2 (Galaxy S2 has "only" Gorilla Glass 1)
Need + 4 cores that are not felt more battery power
+ 16GB vs. 8GB internal memory of S2; Samsung does not use the memory for storing applications
- MicroSIM (the Galaxy S2 was a standard SIM sheetingable)
Software:
+ The boot logo is better. ;)
+ ICS runs very smoothly on the phone
- Many not deinstallierbare "addon" software, which should be uninstallable (DropBox, Google+, ChatOn ...)
Conclusion:
Samsung hardware technology, the Galaxy S2 taken (camera) and where it was necessary to improve (Info-LED, larger screen, more powerful battery, larger memory, more processor cores).
The result is an entirely worthy successor and also a good "entry level", though should be very clear here that the S3 is no "entry level" is, above all, at the price of ~ 590 Euro.
Since the Galaxy S2 was about equal to the publication date 540, but the price is compared (!) OK.
Addendum: I'd pointed to a logic error regarding my G2.. Is corrected. :)
