Seagate Wireless Plus STCV2000200 external wireless hard drive 2 TB (6.4 cm (2.5 inch), and USB 3.0) Silver (accessory)

Customer Review

I have seen the product not from here, but would nevertheless like to make known my previous experience.

Because on the one hand my LTE cellular router refused disk via dedicated USB involve port and I on the other hand had no desire to extend the much too small space of my smartphone and my tablet cumbersome USB OTG, I looked for an alternative to a hand media to stream private WLAN

-without detour via the Internet and load of my monthly Datenvolumens-

and on the other hand to have a backup in parallel with the hard drives of my PC.

After a quick search I ended disks in the category of external WLAN.
Despite many (older) reports on various teething apps & Firmware
I opted for this product yet because, in my opinion, the main points of criticism have now been resolved by updates.

To use the Seagate Wireless Plus 2TB come a subnotebook, a gaming PC with Win 8.1, also with Win 8.1 and a Nexus 5 Nexus 10 with Android 4.4.4. The firmware of the Seagate hard drive and Android apps are on date as possible.

I run the plate over the stationary power supply, which depends on a rail with on / off switch. The plate is ~ 3h per day off in operation and otherwise. Also the power supply is taken by switching off the rail permanently from the mains. For battery life I can therefore not comment.

After unpacking and the usual new equipment-cleaning I noticed quite a change compared to the older test reports on:

The SATA connector and the supplied adapters are omitted. Instead, there are now in the housing two different μ-USB ports next to each other, which form a common connection for the included cable. On the other side of the cable to a vulgar USB 3.0 connector is for connection to PCs, notebooks, and the included AC adapter. With this I connected the Seagate drive with the PC and started copying the data in the existing file system Video folder.

Note!
For me, the front USB ports provided on the PC housing is not enough power for a ramp up of the plate. The rear connections worked without problems.

After copying the data, I connected the cable with the included AC adapter.
After pressing the On / Off button on the panel (1-2s) they started. The start-up takes about 15 seconds. I my PC via WLAN to the plate and launched the Web interface on Google Chrome (http://172.25.0.1).

Here you will find in addition to various display and sorting options for even tools for copying, moving, deleting, etc. files and folders, as well as various settings for software and hardware and to create a Wi-Fi password, and enable encryption.

It is also possible the drive with another active WLAN to connect to access the Internet or to download firmware updates. Furthermore, there is a possibility to synchronize with a Dropbox or Google Drive account.

The firmware starts to first start with the creation of a database. Depending on the file quantity, this may take some time but is essential for quick access and fast navigation.

Note!
The WLAN of the Seagate drive is not encrypted at the first start and password free.
This should take the first attack, otherwise everyone has access to the data.

The current Seagate Media App for Android I think is somewhat clearer, easier to use and also contains all the settings of the Web interface.

Streaming video worked for me. Also 720p / 1080p video so far I could play smoothly.

Since the integrated player not get along with all the containers, I always use VLC Media Player & MX Player Pro.

Uploading folders and files via Wi-Fi on the plate functioned smoothly. Depending on the size, it can sometimes take some time and for very large data mountains, it is advisable to attach the drive to your PC.

The hardware itself is well made gave me no cause for criticism. Everything for the operation necessary accessories is also available.

Only negatives are so far:
On one hand, the lack of opportunity via web interface new folder to create (instead simply copying an existing folder and then renaming of course is a solution)
On the other hand, the impossibility of using the upload function of the web interface several folders and files to upload, it is always just a single file. (The Android app is easily possible)

All in all I am very satisfied and this mixture would buy from mobile hard drive with battery, NAS and private cloud again.
