1 Star because it is a pointless investment of 100 euros.
For a system that barely sounds better than the TV speakers. Just so I can hear bass that rolls over and got behind me cheap-looking speakers that you hardly hear, but the more looks.
Why should we do the work to lay the cable, if possible, even elaborately hang these things and destroy the design of the room?
For reasons of prestige, anyway. Since neither optical nor acoustic into full play with.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
Initial situation:
My bedroom is just 4 x 4 m tall. I have a TCL 39 inch television. The new television increased the sound every few minutes and also the soundscape is anyway relatively flat, so should her a 5.1 system.
I bought 2 Home Theater Systems on Amazon.
1x Samsung HT-F5500 and this system of Philips.
The comparison may seem immoral. The Samsung system is in a different price range (almost twice the price) and in another performance league (Blue-ray player instead of DVD players and 1,000 watts instead of 300 watts).
I see it differently, however.
Both are entry-level models. You buy not every year a new home theater system and must behave reasonably future-oriented consequently.
Although I have a Blue-ray player for 2 years, I have no Blue-ray. For me it was then all about watching movies from your hard drive can. Therefore, it would not force necessary for me to have a Blue-ray player.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
What I like:
1. Detects external hard drives and my recorded movies in TS format
2. picture quality of DVDs and films on the hard disk is about as good as Blu-ray players
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
What I do not like:
1. The sound quality is not as good, and apart from the bass not even much better than my 39 inch TCL TV which just a music power 2 x 4 Watt has.
To test I had the volume set to level 24 from 45 and I had the TV on 0 for me the same scenes again, without belonging to the sound of the system with the sound of the TV.
Bass blaring, voices partly tinny. I have to test loaded the movie "Inception" on DVD and I flew away almost the ears because of the booming bass. It sounded so bad when explosions and some other situations ... In addition, we hear almost nothing by the rear speakers.
I have adjusted the level in the settings, but the bass roar you get not right away and the rear speakers are still too low.
2. One of my external hard drives is not recognized.
3. There were not recognized all movie files on the disk. For example, I once had "4 Brothers" ProSieben recorded (TS format). Apparently the player does not come with Dolby Surround movie files clearly.
4. The cable of the front speakers are far too short. My TV is more than 2 meters away from me, therefore, the front speaker must be also about 2 feet away from the TV. That is virtually impossible because the cable also still need to be positioned so that you can not see. By special connections special adapters are needed for an extension, which are certainly not cheap.
5. You have to keep the remote control relatively accurate toward Player.
6. The boxes are extremely small and lightweight. They also act but cheaper than I thought, and worse than that of the Samsung system in reality.
7. special terminals on the speakers:
As I looked at all the internet, the design of the Philips speaker system I liked much better. I planned, therefore, the DVD player of Philips system for sale and - if possible - to use my own Philips Blu-ray player or necessary to buy a new Blu-ray player.
Once the package arrived, quickly prevailed disillusionment. Because of the special connectors for the speakers, it is not possible to connect them easily to another new Blue-ray player.
8. It is necessary to regulate the television always manually quieter, otherwise you hear the sound twice (Echo). Mute button on the TV-operation I would not push, because then I see all the time the icon on the screen.
9. Design of the DVD player is ugly.
10. Compared to the Samsung system total bit settings possible to adjust the sound. Also, some settings for no apparent reason are easily changed.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
Alternative and Conclusion:
Buy some prefer the Samsung HT-F5500 (Blue-ray and 1000 watts) or equivalent.
The 100 euros more pay off, because it is fit for the future (DVD is always more pushed back) and the design is much fancier. All the other listed by me negative points do not apply to the Samsung system.
I must admit that the Samsung system sounds only marginally better in several places, but it has much more settings to adjust the sound to the environment and their own needs.
