Actually, everything is sown with the heading. The second USB port is only a more stable power supply for drives that do not have their own power supplies.

Addendum 5.2015
So far, the cable was 2 times used to back up data from defective Notebooks.
The third use of the adapter today is simply no longer recognized. On the computers and drives, it is not. I have tested several combinations. For this short life I draw on the previously awarded 5 stars right back 4.
