In the title I have already described why I bought the 55-250 IS for the EOS 450D. To me it is important to pack light to be on the road and yet having to make any major compromises in image quality. The pictures are what remains, but my back will thank me when I carry little weight. With 436g including sun visor (which I highly recommend), the telephoto lens is really not difficult. The sun visor ET 60 can be attached conversely to use the lens and is in no way in the store. Unfortunately, it must be purchased separately, but is worth your purchase. Now to use: The AF is to be able to absorb fast enough to Animals in Action. I even tried my hand with success in flying birds of prey. Of course, the focal length for this Eisatz could be bigger, but also with 250mm can do a bit. For pictures of animals in zoos, it is perfectly adequate in most cases. The image stabilization works well. I shoot my pictures at the zoo animals all without a tripod and have never missed it! Having to use a tripod for me is a bit of freedom, especially in snapshots. As I have previously used an old 80-300mm lens without Image Stabilizer at the zoo, I know the difference based on the non-wobbled images very well appreciated ... Very good, I also think that this lens seamlessly connects to the 18-55mm kit lens. As a rule, I use the 55-250mm as "Always top". With 55mm focal length you can already make even landscapes or portraits. The image quality is very good, convinced the sharpness. In tests of this lens performed well. Priced I need nothing more to say, right? Ok, it does not have USM and is a bit noisy. But that actually falls on only inside. Outside it's never particularly noticed during use because the environment is never completely quiet. And the release of a DSLR is certainly loud, hot wishes, you get used to the noise.
After I am now 1 1/2 years in possession of this objective, I would like to still make an addendum to it. Just over half of my pictures that I do with it, are macros. Motifs like flowers, butterflies and great close-ups can be made fine at 250mm. The background disappears in blur and the subject is very well isolated. If smaller butterflies or beetles Extents are presented, then I recommend the 55-250mm lens in conjunction with the lens 500D from Canon. The result is impressive and stands comparison with a macro lens. The great thing is that I almost always have 55-250 on the camera, the lens is quickly up and down again and disappeared screwed in your pocket. A quick change from macro to telephoto shots is possible!
