Customer Review

I had bought this Korean antenna (in the 2 ports variant) from Amazon, carefully tested, but then returned again after nearly two weeks of testing. Because all three versions (with 1 or 2 or 4 ports) with respect to the observed by me and tested reception and material properties are exactly the same (only behind different number of connection sockets), my findings are relevant for all versions and for their Interested parties equally important.

Developer and manufacturer's "Seung Joon In" and his company "i do it co., Ltd." from Seoul, Korea.

~~~ (Test result) ~~~
I have tested wolkenbedecktem, but dry weather, and carefully "millimeter" aligned in all dimensions. Signal quality (SNR = 7-11 dB) was quite well below a Technisat 60cm bowl of an acquaintance (SNR = 12-16 dB, with the same receiver and weather). When Selfsat already bit error rate (BER) were reported for some transponders from the receiver, even if most could still be intercepted halfway by the error correction. Nevertheless, my confidence had sunk so in sufficient for me bad weather reserve.
~~~ (Causes) ~~~
Although the antenna obviously in itself is rather weak reserve, is likely to be (here in Europe) with a cause for the worse SNR values that since 11/2011 next to the Astra was also strong "jammer" (Eutelsat W3C) on the air had gone. Affected are also large, important transponder, the most HD channels of Sat1 / Pro7 / Kabel 1 / Sixx on Astra 11464H (now collides with the 11471H on the W3C, in poor antennas, as here). Just for example, times look for "interference with HD + by new W3C satellite".

Although I the private HD channels (still) do not use, I saw already in all the closely watched by me free TV transponders (from high / low band, horizontal / vertical), the somewhat battered SNR signal qualities compared to a ordinary 60-bowl.

The Selfsats (actually all flat antennas of this construction principle) do not have good directional selectivity, so that the eastern and western neighboring satellites "effortless" Push down the signal quality, and indeed quite significant as the measurements show.
For technically interested: it is a "phased array" antenna and suffers as such quite violently under very strong "grating lobes" (In addition to directions, will receive also undesirable from which; these have in circular direction sensitivity charts a cone shape, hence the name). For less technically interested in simple German: It collects much of the radiation waste with a, the so flies you from the right and left of the Astra from other satellites around the ears) The directivity is so bad (broken) that the manufacturer never an antenna -Emfpindlichkeitsdiagramm was published. However, one can easily understand the home (I could), by trying to of scanning "millimeter by millimeter" heaven. The grating lobes pretend many ghosts Satellite (positions) that multiply the apparent density satellite again (about fivefold). Put simply, the many hidden behind the plastic foil Tiny antennas squint in 5 different directions in the sky around (have about 4.5-degree Schiel distances measured, respectively, due to the primitive and inferior degree scale on the Selfsat actually rather only estimated). the squint-compartments is therefore plus / minus 9 degrees
(-9 °; -4.5 °; 0 °, + 4.5 ° + 9 °).

The strong radiant W3C is unfortunately "caught" by one of the so squinting side lobes almost full, so it radiates especially as disturbers and affects the signal quality more than the other neighboring satellites. This Stördominanz was also reflected in a strong asymmetry in my series of measurements. While it is the east possible to align the Astra as part of a directional sensitivity analysis on one of the (at the Selfsat yes pronounced) grating lobes (ie one of the feigned by Selfsat eastern Astra phantom positions), (went westwards where the W3C Disorder the Selfsat dominated) soetwas not. If the tested transponders to the W3C worked even from so negative that the best reception (highest SNR) only on the second grating lobe (ie the second Selfsat-feigned Astra phantom position to the east) was possible!

The bowls have been this trouble not (because they have no grating lobes, not in heaven around-squint, and therefore no phantom positions pretend or interference from such collecting), but bowls in turn should lt. W3C Article'd better have a certain minimum size so that their directivity remains clear-cut enough.

~~~ (Interference from cordless phones) ~~~
The transponder with DMAX, Tele-5, DSF = Sport1 etc. had very own interference with the Selfsat. This is the transponder (own or the neighbor) is disturbed by cordless telephones and their base stations, if either the wiring or the connector assembly, or (as in my Selfsat) the antenna is shielded against something inferior. Hardly surprising, since the housing interior run well summed up a few meters poorly shielded cables or very thin bare conductor paths to the small individual elements; appropriate shielding 8-mm-thick cable of course there's no room, because then the antenna would be a cube)
~~~ (Optics?) ~~~
Advantage of Selfsat is for some perhaps her strange (and other curious-making) "Look", if one would like to stand out with something like this and gain attention. Because the Selfsat with 55 cm width is a rather large and clunky balcony antenna, I managed the (involuntarily) quite well. Warning: there are sample images of the manufacturer, in which the antenna was deceptively reduced by perspective tricks and / or by image processing brazenly? A balustrade is lt. Note 1 meter high. In a truthful image the width of the antenna has to appear larger than the half of the balcony parapet height.

Vertical mounting could sometimes visually interesting be (depending on circumstances), but the horizontal separation efficiency is (thus the Astra reception) again bad, so that falls flat this option (even if you had it taken the reprogramming of the receiver to be).

~~~ (Camouflage?) ~~~
Others want to disguise their antenna rather, to the Selfsat but unsuitable; the soft (ie temperature-dependent "working" and plasticized) plastic film prevents the front probably abblätter-free adhesion of paint or spray painting, and would in any case absorb or reflect a portion of the transmission power. The idea statdessen to work adhesive-images, is probably more of a bumbling laughingstock of the manufacturer? Load times in the summer just any printed product or a photo print in the UV radiation of the southern sun. After a short time it is up to the plainness faded be (some colors discolored / yellowed, other grayed or disappeared). And they want their Selfsat therefore every month "paper" (and thereby possibly even adjust the orientation)? In addition, film solutions absorb a portion of the transmission radiation (according to reviews), which determined on the basis of the already missing reserves also not such a good idea.
~~~ (Alternatives?) ~~~
Many co-owner contracts or leases prohibit yes satellite antennas (whether bowls or flat antennas). Sometimes (small) are antennas tolleriert still acceptable at, sometimes (more for higher quality housing estates) the facade but also monitored by fussy or envious Condominium Self inhabitants like a hawk;) Any antenna I would therefore always want to mount inside the main balcony or need. The Astra angle of incidence is about 50% gradient (two steps forward, one step up) but steeper than is estimated, so I could mount each antenna in the corner with a balcony floor contact. Incidentally, even with smaller (side) balconies an antenna would probably never have to extend beyond the parapet - the decisive criterion for "unassailable".

Because these optical conditions, and the flat antenna disappointment I now have the Technisat Digidish bought from Amazon 45 (the selection below 60 cm is unfortunately small arg) tried and successfully; I think now (since the new Eutelsat neighborhood) for the lower limit of a real bad weather reserve. A very small 33 cm dish was me (despite excellent reviews) on the basis of the W3C article as a permanent main antenna long but too risky, and I had the place for 12 cm more.
Bowl brand is probably less important, more attention to material quality (rust free, for example, aluminum), and possibly upgrade LNB. Good are lt. Tests such as Inverto or smart LNBs. I now have a smart LNB.

Otherwise, if an only LNB-arms interfere arg, need to look a little arm-less key to the nature of such a Microflat. These are technically also bowls, in which a rear-view mirror raises the aerial behind the plastic cover in the center of the beam vorgebündelten back. As a "secret" dishes they also have their advantages, and not all the disadvantages Selfsats. What has made me personally (a matter of taste) decided against it, was:
- They must (like the Selfsats) with 30 ° are more tilted, characterized nestle not good at vertical walls at, but must protrude clear of them.
- The hidden reserve levels naturally shields slightly from the center of the primary mirror, so that the Emfpangsstärke likely to be slightly lower than classic dishes of the same size (although still better than Selfsats).
- Of rear-view mirror has a small distance from the main mirror, simulates (or replaced) so only a very short LNB arms. Thus, the selectivity of the antenna is perhaps comparable only to that of a classic 33-cm dish? Although of course still better than a 5-fold in the sky around squinting Selfsat.
- The LNB can not exchange information if, for example similar to a "Test Winner" LNB, Quad LNB would like to upgrade.
A Microflat competes with technically so bowls, which are smaller than a Micro Flat. Since I was a small classic dish visually inconspicuous but, even there with me a little arms did not mind, especially since the well below the balcony parapet top is (in my case even almost touching the floor).

~~~ (. Return problems wg inevitable use damage; rusting) ~~~
Note: Here are some Hurra reviews go, which I think are very credible. If you (like me) first want to fall for it and the antenna order to view, they should take precautions to ensure that there are no problems with the return: before buying them in the construction market washers of various sizes, as both the screw head side also for the mother-side. Download eg the user guide to determine the number and sizes of such washers. Then they construct their cardboard soft "washers for washers". Reason: In the place was on the tightened a screw and then removed, the paint is then completely disappeared. A trader needs something like this no longer take back, or may deduct paint damage as a significant impairment. The paint adhesion is unfortunately actually inferior (ie no enamel, etc.). Since I had also (once even from complete rust !!) read in other reviews / Board of rust susceptibility of the linkage, the problem must be taken seriously. Such inferiority in which price is completely incomprehensible to me. My new Technisat anyway costing half and yet there is everything (even the supporting parts) from all-aluminum.
~~~ (Manual) ~~~
Just sloppy and flawed as the choice of materials and manufacturing is the manual, there is the assignment of screw holes to partially incorrect / reversed (short screw "S1" = M6x18 with long screw "S3" = M6x50). This is not only a Korean translation error, as the pictures are affected. Please keep this in mind when they do want to try the antenna, and then wonder in between.

~~~ (Target market) ~~~
Presumably Seung Joon has in its Korean antenna for local conditions developed (low rainfall, thus rust-retarding air, and only small "Asian" Satellite density?). Maybe more stars would be justified for use in Korea, as with us.
~~~ (Snow default risk) ~~~
Keyword un-Korean Weather: Risky is still the European snow-risk because the Selfsat is inclined at about 30 ° significantly backwards. On comparable sloped rear windows of cars can ever make significant snow domes overnight. When Selfsat broke me of Emfpang already completely together, as I had only once a trial basis spread a damp (wrung out) cloth. Real snowfall I could not try out themselves, without jeopardizing the return period. However, it was not difficult, on the amount to close from the water molecule quantity of a wet tissue in a layer of snow. Thus possibly an antenna in the worst case, I several times an hour wg. black screen "out for snow grooming" would? Since I wanted to he prefers an antenna, which can also in snow winters during my absence (overnight, at work) unattended program record)

~~~ (Cold-risk) ~~~
Keywords cold in general: It is striking that two other honest reviewers (the Selfsat both summer have used even in winter) somewhat observed in common: When it is cold / winter (without snow) breaks even their Selfsat performance. See, for example at the 4 ports variant the review "Pure Schönwetter antenna" by T. closet. "[In winter] with the slightest rain failures by Sport1, Tele5,3Sat and the fourth case of heavy rain 100% total failure-only black screen ". Or by Dirk: "As soon as it has become too cold remained a few stations away." This temperature behavior is very unusual, and something I do not, for example, in bowl LNBs any case not known. And for amplifier electronics cooling is actually more advantageous (less noise). If this had been an isolated incident, one could thus perhaps can not suspect a loose solder joint (due to the already externally very cheap build quality at least not implausible). As it only remains for me a different explanation: The Selfsat is produced in a maritime (moist and warm air) part of Asia? Since her case is hermetically sealed, would be the inevitable consequence that forms at European winter cold in their interior condensation. And apparently enough to cause leakage, and / or alter the electromagnetic resonance frequency of the internal antenna elements (as these have been designed for "air" instead of "water" or "rust" as a surface dielectric).
~~~ (Term risk) ~~~
Once an antenna first time begins, due to condensation (also) to corrode from the inside, hops and malt is lost forever. For example, quote the user "sandy" for its single-Selfsat: "A big minus was however, the antenna has been destroyed within one year due to internal corrosion." However, he suspected leaks at the screw-type solution. But no matter, whatever is that humidity inside knock together, the antenna is korrisions-prone in Innerern, thus long-term self-destructive. This is for an outdoor antenna do practically anything.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Conclusion: 2 stars. A bad concept, which combines theory and practice a variety of performance and design weaknesses from different directions up, which here still come along as cheaper Korea clutter of soft plastic, crumbs-paint and rust-linkage. Are 3O For this performance, - adequate.
Due to the strong performance measured gap to .45 or 60 Bowls I expect that even the very small 33-cm bowls will perform better than a Selfsat. And, although a small key with 33 cm width would appear much smaller, lighter, and thus optically redeemed, as the me arg bulky appearing and heavy Selfsat that due
- Its expansive 55-cm-width,
- Her radiant "Signal white", and
- Their (also kippstellungsbedingten) inability to conform well in corners or on walls,
was perceived by me and neighbors as a striking eye-catcher. In addition, the small bowl was just like any other dish easier to install and align without these hassles with the many fake (and transponder depends disturbing) Phantom satellite positions of Selfsat that yes, with its many internal mini-antennae in 5 different directions (in ca 4,5 degree intervals) in the sky around-switched rather than as bowls to pool their line of sight in only one direction. And the trouble with pre-winter cold precipitation, snowfall, or rod-rust there is not even. And a small bowl including LNB head costs only about one-third, despite "brand" instead of Korea-clutter.
Nevertheless, I recommend at least a 45-cm-dish as a future reserve when's the place somehow allowed (yes even then 10 cm less than a Selfsat, and the remeasured signal quality distance therefrom is 4 dB already really big). Because this future has already begun with the W3C problem in the sky. I have resisted, especially why the "small is beautiful" -Versuchung the 33 prefer and recommend that too.
~~~ (Changes since my test) ~~~
In February 2012 (after my purchase) lt. The W3C article the W3C satellite has been moved away to -1.3 ° to the west of 16 ° to 14.7 °, the distance to Astra (19.2 °) thus amounts to -4.5 °. This has two effects:
1. Mini-bowls like the 33er have been thus re-evaluated (the 45er had anyway never had problems with the W3C satellite, so I had indeed bought or even retain).
2. the Selfsat, with their specific squinting side lobes, has been devalued by their signal quality even further, since the W3C is now exactly on their first squinting west side lobe. Whether therefore would be * to reduce the assessment of Selfsat from 2 to 1 *, I can without new test run fails to identify, and leave it only because it was.

Newer honest reviews as the read values of AK www.Amazon.com/review/R1PJ10G7MQ4NDG Junker from 12/2012, however, point to a further deterioration: "Some broadcasters, such as Pro7, Sat1, N24, Sixx Tele5. Cable1 so almost everything what comes of HD +, often even in good weather difficulties (Fischeln and audio dropouts) ".

Whether you will want to flirt with a 33er Mini dish (instead of .45 or greater) because this news will depend on their experimentation will, and if you smallness really, really important (Top of bad weather reserves, however, not so much). And of the hope that the W3C really is now, where he is, and not sometime back eastwards is zurückverfrachtet to its original position.
