No. 1 to be in Austria is not necessarily misunderstand as a quality characteristic. As an Austrian, one might ask me to concede that little cheek! And the combination of folk music instruments and -klängen with bone-dry rock music is in truth anything but new.
But you look at all that in the context of the texts, then here is something altogether really great came out of it!
Especially the opening track "Brenna tuats Guat" (ie: "Burn does it well") hath done to me in particular. That's economic criticism and Anpöbelei of boundless capitalism PUR! If H. v. Goisern loudly singing that money, if it's otherwise too nothing is good, would give at least a nice fire (to exaggerate), then that's accompanied with riffs that make a locally very lucky, indeed a concern, that gets under your skin and the emotions causing (at least for me).
Well, a master poet Lord Goisern v. Maybe none, but his lyrics are (also subsequently) better than that of many colleagues who would like to boast as Super songwriter is ...
That due to the vernacular use a little will lack international clout is the big downer when I think about it, what other unnecessary junk is often hawked to (at least) as a lot of money. But it's good the way it is because Entwederundoder would otherwise never have been authentic.
About the music can already say anything bad. The band (and also v. Goisern itself) plays marvelously. In addition, the production of the disc certainly has an international level (as burning the plant, if you let it get's!).
Ehrlich: Entwederundoder meets all the requirements of a successful, respectable music album. I would have never thought that one day I would still write a review on a Hubert von Goisern CD ...
So be it. It was my pleasure!
Let it also be to you and submit to you, dear friends of good music, Entwederundoder!
Additional Note: Von Goisern is generally very difficult to classify. Terms like "Austropop" or "world music" are just as aptly as "indie rock" or "alternative". "Folk Music" in the traditional sense, it is certainly not ...
Anyway.
4 STARS straight, because not every single track necessarily tears me from the seat, the positives but certainly outweighs!
Positive Side note: The cover design is really great. I like very much!
