I have been working now for several years with this lens and digital DSLR cameras and may good things to say about this lens only. The focus is on the entire zoom range really impressive. The processing is as befits an L lens, extremely good and robust. The tough working conditions may impose such a device not much. This is also one of the reasons why this objective enjoys since its publication almost 16 years ago, continues to be a great favorite among the press and sports photographers. The price performance ratio of this lens is very well done, only the image stabilizer one must refrain here. Compared to the first version of the 70-200 2.8L with image stabilization lens without stabilization is consistently sharper though it is considerably older. Only the new version of the 70-200 2.8L II can still boast better sharpness values and a nicer Bokeh, but also costs almost double. The Bokeh is to be really far from bad, but it is so that it produce the new lenses with rounded diaphragm blades an even finer Bokeh and look just beautiful dimmed. But that's whining at a high level. For portraits, this lens is really very good. Only specialized fixed focal lengths are of course more enjoyable with regard to the exemption options and the bokeh. If you like extreme and absolute exemption creamy bokeh, let him take a look at the FBs as 85 1.2L, the 1.2L 50 or the 135 2.0 L. The 70-200 2.8L USM has but against each FB a huge advantage: it's flexible! When you get some time and has yet to deliver good pictures or the conditions are not estimate I swear on this lens. Also for reportage jobs o. Ä. This objective is better because more flexible than FBs. How does it look with the corresponding alternatives? There would still 2 70-200 4.0 L USM lens from Canon. Both very sharp and a also still with image stabilization. However F4 is not just to anyone, anywhere enough, especially since the 70-200 4.0 L IS USM also has a rather strong price. Alternatively, those who have it in for the light intensity of this lens and a 70-200 requires, had fallen to 2.8 Tamron 70-200. It is processed sharp and passable but much slower with regard to the speed of Autofokusses. Furthermore, there is also a Sigma 70-200 2.8 L which is not necessarily a miracle sharpness at maximum aperture, however, and in which I would check the proper functioning of Autofokusses exactly definitely.
The 70-200 2.8L is an absolute all-round lens for a reason just at the KB. Portraits, Reportage, lightweight telephoto shots etc ... wonderful!
