In spring 2009 we were looking for on mattresses. Set in a large furniture store in Berlin asked me a seller to "mattress test". By the way, he showed me the "work" of a motorized bar frame. Pleasant sitting posture and shutdown ... a dream for the back. A pleasant routes went through my spine.
The prices in the local furniture stores could not lure us as a healthy price / Leistung- ratio for us was mostly not recognizable. After some Internet research, we ended up at Rhodes. Not in Greece, but ... in the company "FMP Mattress Factory" Rösrath in Germany.
"7 zone slatted frame Rhodes EL - head and foot electrically adjustable, 44 bars, 2 engines," book slats, holm covering TRIO rubber caps, 2 motors, mains cut-off, emergency lowering, middle chord, etc. at a price where we said 'Gosh, Demands ! ".
So actually everything available, what distinguishes a very good framework. What about the materials used? What is the mechanism designed? Some furniture stores we had seen "lifting arms" for the upper and lower parts which lifted the wooden frame on plastic caps. Because even noticed the salesman that it was probably not so very well done (???, Aha!).
So get on the phone and ... at the other end of the boss himself. Asked questions ... pleasantly quiet all get explained. We then bought two electric bed frames Rhodes EL in the size 100 x 200 cm. That was in May of 2009.
Now, after one year of daily use, I want to try our experience with the "7 Zones slatted frame Rhodes EL" reproduce.
1. Delivery / packaging
Three days after purchasing the forwarding phoned us and agreed the delivery date. The packaging was exemplary. The entire frame was wrapped in bubble wrap and shrink-wrapped in foil total. The frame parts, the remote control cable and power cord were lashed to the base frame with cable ties. Nothing rattled, nothing was loose and chafed. Transport damages were not determine what would have been in this exemplary packaging also hardly possible.
2. Facts and Figures
Clean processing, protective caps on the frame ends, clean welds on the temples, clean paint the metal parts in silver. At first and even at second glance ... nothing to complain about.
The overall dimensions of the base frame amount to 196 x 99 cm. The total height of the frame incl. Engine and transmission part is 21 cm. The pure frame height is 11 cm. Thus must lie below the frame rest still at least 10 cm space remains for the motor and transmission unit.
The frame is in my terminology into three main parts subdivided (headboard, midsection, foot). The actual head (70 cm) is subdivided by a massive extra frame, so that when the upper body is lifted, the head is always kept a little steeper forward (similar to a car seat - the rest is slightly oblique to the rear, the headrest holds the head but straight). This extra headrest we have not found in our research everywhere and certainly not with a stable extra frame. The slatted frame surface of the small upper head part (of extra frame) consists of a plate with three slots, so 4 strips formed with a lateral reinforcement and three other bars. Despite the apparent stable construction, the strip springs inside the plate. This plate is, like the other three strips, stored in rubber caps. Three bars are grouped together on a cap and spring-mounted. The lower head part then consists of 9 strips, which were also summarized on rubber caps each 3 strips blocks. The middle part is fixed to the base frame and is 3 x 3 strips blocks formed. The strips are here adjustable in their hardness. After 1120 cm, the foot part of the frame begins. This is also shared (via a ribbon hinge), so that a parallel lifting of the actual base part is guaranteed. With the first small section 3 strips of thigh is lifted about 2 x. The lower portion (58 cm) is then always parallel to the base frame and has 3 x 3 blocks and strips a foot (in my opinion, made the same way as the "top plate"). Thus, for the scope of a division in fact five cuts.
The rubber caps protrude beyond the frame sides and close to the outer edge of the base frame from. The middle chord across all strips is to prevent the displacement of the slats in longitudinal direction of the frame. The belt webbing is strong and looks very stable.
Pure bar frame surface has a length of 193 cm.
The engine and transmission unit comes from the company DEWERT. The model is called "DUOMAT 5". There are two engines available. The engine and transmission unit is located below the frame on the right side and extends downward 10 cm above the lower frame edge out (starting from 62 cm to 130 cm, measured from the top).
The transmission unit moves the metal brackets, which are responsible for the raising and lowering of the frame parts. The build quality is very stable. The actual lifting arms are made of 4 mm thick flat iron, which is 30 mm wide. The lift arms are firmly on joints with the frame parts. On the frame parts are screwed massive shooting angle, the lifting arms by bolts (secured with snap rings) the record. The rear lift arms are lowered state in frame height. The front lifting arms have due to the necessary angle mechanics measured in lowered state its lowest point at 11 cm from the front. There, the lifting mechanism reaches 9 cm below the lower edge of frame (Warning cross boards, bed box usage etc.).
3. Installation / Assembly
The slatted frame weighs about 28 kg. It usually takes only two people to clean the frame in bed store. It should be noted that due to the technical condition in double beds, a central support for the frame must be available. Transversal boards can interfere since the lifting mechanism and the engine and transmission unit need space along below the frame. Transversal boards can however still be used if they are cut out at the appropriate points.
The current connection is via a 380 cm long power cord. The power plug is a (similar to a normal plug-in charger) integrated block. This block contains the main electrical switch. This was important to us, as not all manufacturers unlocking perform the plug. Thus, no voltage is short time here after the last operation on the engine under the bed of (no magnetic fields etc.).
For emergency lowering, so if during a power failure, the bed is just lifted, is located on the engine and transmission unit a bracket, in a 9V battery connected. Right next to it is a normal 9V battery Anschuss. To use the emergency lowering then only the 9V to be pressed on the Anschuss. Since the battery thus always "is available at the bed, they can not accidentally get lost times also.
4. Use
Notwithstanding the remote control offered here we do not have the conventional cable version.
The remote control looks appealing. Dimensions 14 cm x 5 cm x 2.5 cm. All edges rounded. Bottom (cable) semicircle. Colour light gray with six black round control buttons in two rows. Under the knobs a stylized bar frame is shown. On the back of the remote controller holder can be pulled out, which makes it possible to mount the remote control on the side of the bed. After releasing a button you pressed the motor stops immediately. The remote control is connected via a 150 cm long cable with the motor unit. This is divided into a 95 cm long straight section and a 50 cm long spiral cable part (the 50 cm can be stretched easily to 180 cm).
When raising and lowering the frame bar The following values were measured from me:

front: the power of 16 seconds down 15 seconds - each to stop and motor from
Rear: high 13 seconds down 12 seconds - each to stop and motor from
loaded with 104 kg and without the upper body lift
front: the power of 24 seconds down 16 seconds - each to stop and motor from
Rear: High 15 seconds down 12 seconds - each to stop and motor from
These times are including about 2-3 seconds each for starting the engine until the start of the lifting and moving to the end position until engine.
The headboard is made very steep at maximum position. The main frame of the head section is raised at the joint point of about 55 degrees. The inserted small headboard frame is further superscript at its joint, so that there is an angle of about 80 degrees is taken to the base frame in the maximum case. This adjustment rich wonderful for reading, watching TV and relaxing meal in bed (thus also a good support for sick people and their caregivers). The foot is lifted by a maximum of 16 cm parallel to the base frame.
Even now, after a year of use ... neither in the operation of the frame, even when sleeping / lying in the lowered state noise are as creak, squeak, rattle to be heard. In upscale as well as in the lowered position, everything is fixed, stable, and gives the body a feeling of security. One need not cautious or slow to move, for fear of the mechanics or the bed frames could occur or fail.
5. Service
In the telephone call to the product we were very good and comprehensive information.
Delivery costs are not charged extra.
Due to the current order in the family, we know that even special designs for a small and reasonable charge are possible.
6. Conclusion
So far, no problems and complaints.
