After the WD My Cloud Mirror NAS had arrived with me, it was first connected to the network - assigned and all the necessary shares and user privileges, which is due to the sophisticated user interface (dashboard) also - a WD 8-Port Gigabit Switch designed to be very easy for laymen.
Then I made a few Perfomance tests and was very pleased that the higher CPU clock and more RAM compared to my MyBook LifeDuo also reflected in higher data transfer rates. Up to 45 MB / sec were written and the read speed was good 65-70 MByte / sec for large files which are about 10 MByte / sec more than my MyBook LifeDuo creates in the same environment.
Shortly thereafter, however, the problems started ... -. After I had my photo archive copies with more than 45,000 photos on the new MyCloud Mirror NAS, the NAS adopted in continuous operation and focused on themselves first impression was of an infinite loop ... - the CPU was constantly busy with 98% to 100%, even though I did nothing with the NAS. The transfer rates plummeted to a few dozen kilobytes / sec (!!), the NAS was also via a dashboard hardly approachable ... - even a few reboots have not altered, the NAS was no longer accessible.
So I have the NAS decommissioned first and approached me via email to the support, which unfortunately could be more than one week before my first email was answered with extensive error description. Unfortunately, there was no real help, but once the request, certain log files from the NAS to copy and mail it to the WD Support ... - only days later, the integrated media server has been identified as a problem, the easy all Photos first wanted to convert into a smaller format, which would have given the size of the archive ultimately means a few days work. Since this function is not switched off separately, was recommended to me by WD to turn off the entire Media Server service, which then also worked. The NAS was addressed again and the performance again in the green zone.
As NAS, I can the MyCloud Mirror So give for the price only an excellent review, however, the cloud and media server functions are not the last word ... - that the NAS, given the volume of data transferred and the CPU power for some time needs, if these data shall be processed internally, is already clear. The fact that but the NAS is almost completely blocked and this internal index or convert either as a background task with low priority is still to be selectively switched off, is simply annoying for me. But since I hardly use these functions anyway, I pull from only one star for this impairment and the rather slow support from WD.
