The 45er is very small. It is one third less than the 14-45 (OIS) and a little lighter. Once unpacked makes little something real head turner. The feel is very good. A metal bayonet and a clean processed tube distinguish the 45er. The focus ring is finely milled, it goes fed but not strictly. The bayonet sits quite crisp on my GF-1. The 45er has no stabilizer on board. Nevertheless, some would have to be possible to non-wobbled images with 1.8. Front and rear cap are also included. What is missing is the lens hood. That to me is a real Aufreger, even with Canon annoys me that. Olympus can be the part of the 37mm front thread pay pharmacies excessively. I manage myself with a rubber part from the accessory shelf: B + W 900 Rubber Lens Hood (Lens Hood, Lens Hood) 37mm foldable. This is practical, sensitive and also cheap. A transport bag is also missing. Good thing the purchase price with two and a half hundreds, currently is still quite moderate.
As now proposed the 45er on the GF-1? As my standard is definitely no cucumber, but then I was very surprised at the Olympus. Already open the glass is quite crisp and dims two stages even sharper. With 45mm and aperture 8 of different from that of fixed focal length for zoom is good to see. The 45 / 1.8 is much sharper. I had not expected. Mind you, I have no "Pixelpeeping" operated. The first impression is characterized when Zoom has a somewhat "softer image" at 45mm, which is already seen very good at 30%.
Faster lenses are at maximum aperture usually somewhat susceptible to color bleeding. Even when they are .45 to discover. However, in absolute harmless form. Already a shutter more and the nightmare is almost completely gone (see photos set). The focus is firmly seated and walking briskly to the 45s right. The manual focusing is, thanks to the zoom function of the GF-1, easy.
But the hammer of Olympus is the bokeh. My previous favorite was the Pentax DA * 55 / 1.4. The small Olympus has replaced it. That's also the reason to keep it to myself it. The Zuiko draws wonderfully round circles of light on the picture, the "Crema" is like a good arabica beans beverage from Bella Italia. Actually, I wanted to get no second MFT camera, but the little Oly is addictive and the question of a more powerful MFT Cam is open again.
Short and sweet
Positive:
+ Processing and haptics
+ Very good imaging performance
+ Small and compact
+ Hardly fringing
+ Wonderful Bokeh
+ Price
Negatives:
- Free to Lens Hood
- No transport bag
- Nothing else
My conclusion: The wait was well worth it. The little .45 is excellent processed lens to get for fair money and makes the small MFT camera for serious camera. The creamy bokeh of the lens is fantastic. The M.Zuiko is the ultimate best buy for the MFT mount and adjacent to the 20 / 1.7 Panasonic for me the best MFT lens. Maybe I treat myself still a GH2 ?!
Addendum August 2012: In the meantime, the GX1 and a used GH2 has landed in the fundus. This has again brought a significant gain in image quality. The higher resolution does not detract from the matter. On the contrary, as you realize to what the small Olympus lens capable.
