I had actually its predecessor WFR-29 D ordered for good test results from Amazon, but then get over Voelkner this successor model supplied, strange that C after D comes ... Anyway, compared to its predecessor, the display is smaller but high resolution and color for the display pleases me very well, especially as clock at night. The service is perhaps a little bit awkward, but reasonably intuitive. An English manual is printed in other languages, including German, it is on a CD enclosed. Used is especially if you want to control the device via the Internet or app, but what I have not tried. There are (only) 5 preset buttons for FM, DAB + and internet radio, so that 15 stations can be stored to call other stations is then somewhat more complicated. Upstairs there is a USB port, in which a micro USB stick is with me, unfortunately the rubber cover raises unattractive despite its small size, which could have been a better solution. The sound of the instrument is not great, you can probably no longer be expected owing to the small size of the entire device and thus the speakers, the sound via a connected headphones is good. Compared with pure FM radio reception range is terrific, of course you have to remember that you have to live for the reception of DAB + in a medically underserved area and a wireless network must be available for the Internet radio. Both are available with me and the DAB + reception is also in the room with me very well. The device can be equipped with 6 batteries (size C, baby), which of course drives up the price quite at long holding quality batteries into the air. Otherwise, an external power supply is included, with a corresponding adjustment of the charging switch, the batteries are automatically charged in the device. The display brightness can be adjusted in three steps, with pressure on a button, the display will temporarily (adjustable) initially quite light, which facilitates the operation. The lowest brightness level is ideal for me to function as a clock radio, in the night I sometimes just in the dark can read the time. Interestingly, the color of the digital change from time to time between yellow, orange and dark red. The clock automatically adjusts itself, by FM, DAB + or Internet, depending on how you have set it. Thus, it is just as comfortable as a radio clock. As far as an almost ideal device there would be, but not a few quirks: Depends on the unit power supply and batteries are inserted, takes place after each switching on and off a more minute charge cycle, the green LED flashes, why is that? When the charging cycle ends, the green LED is continuously bright, for use as a night clock it would be better, they would be put out. The clock only works when AC adapter is connected, otherwise the display is blank. That would not be so bad if the alarm by battery / battery would work, which he did not do: no power supply, the time is lost and retold + until the next time via WLAN or DAB, an alarm function so there's only network connection. The alarm for weekdays works unfortunately limited: Monday is awakened not right: While the display is on, but there is no sound, this only comes on when you press the green button, which normally turns off the alarm event. Edit: this problem appears to have been resolved by now supplied firmware update. The radio interferes with inserted power supply to receive my radio controlled clock, if this until about 50 cm away in the radius of the device, which is a bit annoying, because otherwise I both would like to have on my bedside table. I want music via USB to play, so I have to back through the menus. Via DAB + are sporadically displayed cover when the transmitter emits this, with MP3 music, the cover will not be displayed.
Some of these errors / shortcomings could be turned off by a possible firmware update. In the menu there is also a program to point (manual search for update but is reflected in the German menu only in Spanish), to date there have been a first update details, see below in my updates.
The shortcomings and errors lead me to a point deduction, otherwise it's a nice device.
Updated on 12/19/14: It now has for the first time a firmware update for the device, where that could be easily import via WLAN. Unfortunately, significantly affects the function of the device this update. An inserted power supply, it leads after switching a reset, and it loses the time, newly refurbished and then turns off. Only a second press of the green Einschaltknopfes it turns then really. This also the alarm function is now completely lost. Although the unit at the set alarm time turns on, then makes but this reset and turns off again, so that I will not wake you. I've tried quite a return to factory settings and switched off the battery charging, the problem persists. In battery mode everything goes as before the update, but I would like to continue to use the device as a clock radio. In this state, I would assign the device only two stars, but I hope for a speedy renewed firmware update that makes the wake-up functionality again. Updated on 12.01.2015: The email support from Sangean.eu seems worthless, I did not even get an email confirmation of my request. I read in a forum of the unit owners who have performed the firmware update without getting the problems I have mentioned. However, I am not the only one with the problem of how the debate on this review shows. I got my unit now exchanged easily over Völkner, the new device firmware update worked and the unit works well. I can now be plugged in and the USB flash drive, without that I get a message when you turn each time, the last played track the Sangean not noted further, however. The alarm now works in the Labour Day setting also on Mondays. By the firmware update the device has got an additional function for the Spotify service. I need not, but it should be interesting for the one or the other. Updated on 03/18/2015 Mitterweile came a new firmware version, this could be import problems on my device now exchanged. Any changes I have not noticed, perhaps the reset problem for some instances has been fixed so.
