On the housing of the headphones far outweighs plastic. With its simple and powerful design of the RS 165 acts outwardly not particularly high. Processing, however perfectly, and the device makes a robust impression. The charging station is maybe not just a looker, but you are sure to find a corner beside or behind the television, where it does not disturb optically.
The RS 165 is easy to hang on the charging station, the charging connector snaps clearly. That's not very fiddly. The orientation of the handset on the Station does not matter. Charge time will be when the batteries quite a long (more than one day). But since it is a standard-size (depending on handset side 1x AA / Mignon), can be used in "emergencies" and normal batteries or refuel the batteries in a separate charger. With one turn at each earcup the battery compartments are quick and easy to open. Operation with third-party batteries (NiMH) has worked for me without any problems (here: Varta).
With regard to connection and handling there is no mystery to solve. The cable of the supplied AC adapter for the charging station has a decent length. As the only Sinaleingang the 3.5 mm jack is to be connected with a corresponding cable (supplied). It should be noted that some TVs do not have analog line output - here you have to use the almost always existing headphone output, which in turn is volume controlled and is often on the front. A discreet cable routing for RS 165 is then difficult. For rear outputs you may need an adapter from RCA to jack (not included).
The radio transmission caused - the current state of the art - barely audible loss of sound quality. Only when the handset is fully turned on volume, you can hear a slight background noise. The range meets all of a large living room or a not too large apartment. I go with the RS 165 in our house but one floor below, there are disconnections.
The control range for the volume is sufficient, and with a little practice, it is also the buttons for palpate well (on the right earcup). The same applies to the "Bass Boost" button. This helps towards the normal position to a more present bass. However, the bass impact of the difference is not huge even with activated "Boost" still moderate. The optimal amount of bass is natural flavor, especially but habituation thing. I'll usually switched to "Boost" because without the sound is too thin to me. For me it is therefore more of a "Bass Off" feature. It exists only in the cheaper models of the RS series and probably a marketing issue.
Overall, the sound is clear in the highs and highly differentiated, and with activated "Bass Boost" sounds and the deep bass adequately fed. Those who value powerful bass, has yet to help out with a little EQ. Unfortunately, the middle range sounds somewhat hollow, what bothers me most. For listening to music with hi-fi claims of RS 165 in my view is therefore less suitable.
The relatively solid leatherette cushion the earcups press and in my case. The comfort is sufficient but, that I can keep the device without major discomfort for hours on the head. A not too thick eyeglass frame is also not a problem, even if the cushion no longer bear around.
Conclusion
The RS 165 delivers what it promises. The case is a bit clunky, the wearing comfort acceptable (in my case). It is easy and convenient to handle and delivers a decent sound quality. Power four star.
