Sony BDP S 360 Blu Ray Player (1080p Full HD, Deep Color, Dolby True HD, DTS HD) (Electronics)

Customer Review

After the old DVD recorder has shown in the recording function, and later when playing with significant shortcomings needed a new device. While I do not own a single Blu-ray disc, but the unit should be future-proof. An Ordinary upscaling function should not be missing.

This provides the Blu-ray player BDP S 360 Sony.

The choice would much purely subjective first on the Sony brand, since the TV is also available from this manufacturer and thus operate the sync function. This meant first the disappearance of a remote control.

### To the outer ###

The BD player is black. The front is glossy piano black lacquer. The overall depth is quite low, which means you also easily can accommodate in smaller TV racks the player.
Front upper right is the button to open the disc tray. When you press the entire front of the player folds forward and downward and the tray will eject.
Front upper right we find the button to turn on the player. Located right in the center you will find the functions Play and Stop.
The connectors on the rear panel provide Digital out (coaxial), Line Out (RCA), Line Out (Video) Digital out (optical), USB expansion slot (not suitable for USB sticks for playing music etc pp. ,), Component Video, HDMI out, LAN, and of course the jack for the power supply. Likewise, there is a ventilation grille.
The front panel display has got quite small and has only 7 points. The display also is transmitted from which source, or which has shown the quality. Play and Pause are mandatory. These are an indication of the network activity.

### Software and menu ###

The software works perfectly so far. The player has denied any disk, regardless of whether DVD purchase, buying Blu-ray, DVD-authored discs, or audio CD and data CD. The DVD-VR format will tremble if played.
The player is after about 30 - 40 seconds (when no disc is loaded) willing to accept a disc. Is a disc, then it will take about 50 to 60 seconds are the player is ready, but then also starts already playing the movie or just the menu. That's how often reads a bad value. At this point I must say that I can understand it's not quite why this is important. Who has it now-a-days in such a hurry that you can not wait for one minute until the media started completely. I want to wait and not forever, but for a minute? Or 2 min? That would absolutely do not care and is on the Wichtigkeitsskale at the lowest position, if not even further including ;-)
The menu is like already from the Sony Bravia known as XMB - Xross Media Bar and is very clear quickly and thoughtfully. All functions can be found quickly. The initial installation goes quickly out of hand and you can safely in 3 minutes, the first DVD, BD, etc ... Insert.
When playing but very little is on offer. The full menu is unavailable when playing. When activate the Home function stops the movie and you get to the XMB. In DVD playback, moves at least back to the last viewed point of the DVD. Blu-Ray which is not the case. The movie starts from the beginning.
Unfortunately, there is no decent DVD playback sound or subtitle menu. That is, unfortunately, you can not tell what sound formats are available on the disc. There remains only the possibility durchzuswitchen each audio formats via Audio button on the remote. This sound formats are unfortunately shown little getting used to. Dolby Digital 5.1, for example, as a German: Dolby Digital represented 3/2 1 48KHz. Since the display does not appear particularly long one must already look closely what you have just selected. About the remote control button display but can show the selected format and further information.
The progress bar at the temporary display, however, is quite pleasant. The display is permanent until you deselecting this and shows in addition to the information how much time has passed and how long the disc still running and how much is the just transmitted data rate.
Unfortunately, there is no Graphically-prepared track / title list during playback. So you have only the possibility durchzutracken the tracks, or open the Home menu and manually enter the relevant section, or of course to jump back in the DVD menu. Since I was used to from my old LG player better.
The extrapolation of the DVD material works very well. The picture is much better than before. here but surely the connection method and the appropriate television plays a role.

### Remote control ###

The Sync function works fine. When connecting via HDMI cable, the player is instantly recognized and you can use this via TV remote control. BUT: not everything. Too Bad. For example, the pause button is missing on the TV Fernbeienung completely. There are also other functions, which means that you definitely can not do without one of the two remote controls. Too bad, here you could certainly have secondary functions of keys, or can be combined to other intelligently.
The remote is otherwise certainly not a gem. They seemed a bit stockier than the Oversized Bravia operation, but appears rather clumsy and simply ill-conceived. Keys as Audio, Subtitle, Display and Time are MMN simply placed together in a group. Audio, Subtitle and Time and Angle are strangely in the group of numeral keys and are even separated by those of each other. The display button is located at the bottom in the playback control.
The description of all functions can be found in English-language. That's better. Other manufacturers do not get that in German out why Sony. Unfortunately, you can then immediately do not guess what now the key top menu and pop-up menu is different or what they do. Coming into the disc menu? Coming into Play menu, or there are settings for continuous playback as track selection, sound, audio, etc.
The key Options, Home and return, and the directional pad, however, are again arranged as usual.
The remote is not illuminated.

### Environment ###

Unfortunately, there is no i-menu in the software of the device. Too bad, would not this can save several tons of paper again. A full paper manual is but (unfortunately) at.
According to the manufacturer of the BD player is to be a power saver. I have not verified that. However, the player has some features in the software to power both in operation and in standby mode to save. As an example, the Quick Start function can be deactivated or the dimming of the display.

### Noise ###

Very strange is that! So while playing the player is absolutely whisper quiet. There is nothing to be heard. The built-in fan on the rear panel is either so low or it is not yet started.
The only sounds occur through the drawer when opening and closing, and when changing tracks or titles. There are, however, a quite unusual noise for me (at least for BD / DVD players) There is a faint, muffled ... um ... klonk ;-). Squeaking, creaking or catlike purring noises I could not have found so far.

### Conclusion ###

Satisfactory to good players. Solidly built apparently with eingen weaknesses and deficiencies detail. Sony should rework in this Preissekment. The player has the Create this review Bereis a successor and is therefore here at Amazon clearly expensive (currently 130 Euro). I have the player with a well-known media companies as much as 20 euros and get a discount (110 Euro).
Unfortunately, you can not assign half star. 3, 5 would be correct I give 3 in this review.
