DELIVERY
In the pretty box is located next to the AP and the complete installation material for ceiling or wall mounting, which is exemplary. The also included PoE injector is not compatible with the 802.3af standard! So one has him use mandatory and can not take advice from a switch him. The power cord is also rated very short with just under 50 cm and spare you get not just so fast around the corner because it has a "cloverleaf plug" and not the usual rubber connector. An attachment option is also missing the PoE injector. Network cable is none.
FACILITY
It is imperative to install a software on your PC to the AP to configure the first time. For certain functions (Hotel function, statistics, etc.), it is even necessary that this is always running on the PC. However, these are relatively unimportant for the "normal" users. This software is available in English only. In addition, Java is required in version 7 - with the current version 8 will start the configuration software does not, as I found out after some research on the web * kopfschüttel * Otherwise, the setup process runs smoothly. The enterprise features, feature hotel / guest portal and a little extended Tatistike but Ahlten is very limited. With Cisco Aironet that is in no way comparable.
PERFORMANCE
Compete had the UAP-LR against my TP-Link TL-WA901ND with 3x5dBi antennas and most current OpenWrt firmware; priced this setup is approximately half the ubiquiti. Location, channel and encryption (WPA2 / AES) were adopted without change. I do not get bored at this point with network benchmarks, etc. - but after almost 2 weeks of UAP-LR is now in operation, the conclusion is made quite simple: compared to the TP-Link range, speed and stability are identical. Even in critical border areas and difficult reception areas no improvement. This should in no way mean that the UAP-LR is bad, but also not better than a dedicated AP from TP-Link. Negative falls humming / whirring up when the AP is fully loaded with multiple clients transfer the large amount of data simultaneously. That the wireless performance of routers that handle even incidentally, is not so great is not surprising yes. Especially with the products of AVM; but must indeed bring their repeater at the man. At least if you had something like usual, the UAP-LR is a significant improvement.
SUPPORT
Here is announced clearly "thumbs down" vote. Instead of the usual 2 years, there are only 1 year warranty. The return address is in the US - in Europe there is no! In addition, you have to order the customs formalities (proforma invoice etc.) care otherwise be refused. That leaves the 2-year warranty in case of failure. However, here applies after 6 months the "burden of proof" and if you have not just a kulaten seller like Amazon, then you get often hear "Please contact the manufacturer directly for warranty".
A hotline does not exist, only an English-language forum. There are also official support staff are traveling, but a guarantee of an answer or problem solving is in no case when one reads across time there. Many problems are also known there, such as the hum at full load or the Java version problem but there is not much taken by officials. Almost more important as solid hardware is also a reliable support - particularly for an enterprise product. And that lack almost completely here!
At least the unit of OpenWrt is fully supported. I'll try next and then finally decide whether I keep or sell Ihne again. So far, I am not convinced.
