The story is structured differently as the typical Roman one reads the other. Each chapter describes how he asked to be called at the end of each chapter could answer.
There is an insight into the Indian culture - albeit in exaggerated Bollywood style. There is everything - love, pain, violence, joy, sadness. Actually overloaded with situations and problems and not really a credible story - but many of these stories are so exciting that you questioned the credibility of an afterthought. It is rather in order to wish the poor Ram that sometimes happens to him something good busy.
Many problems of Indian society are treated here - poverty, rape, homosexuality, incest, child begging, prostitution ....
It's a hard and sad story, yet beautiful.
Only criticism: In the first chapter after the introduction you think Salim and Ram were already older, while they are still children. However, due to time jumps is a significantly later - when what happened.
Great book - definitely recommended.
