Who loves Victorian literature, comes in this book fully at its expense. The relatively unknown author writes funny, partly ironic, and in moderation also critical of society. No "big" literature, but a well-written, beautifully composed by, enjoyable to read history. Really something to cut off from the present, the best by the fireplace in the company of the cat and with a good glass of wine. If you do not mind the slight time-typical anti-Semitism, which is a good old fashioned, excellent written book.
