Customer Review

My previous television, a Samsung PS51D550 - plasma TV, unfortunately for now 3 1/2 years use has a defect. Accordingly, for a new device, I had to look around. During my search, I realized that there are hardly any current plasma TVs on the market, so I visited my local electric markets and put the 2014 LCD models under the microscope. The Sony 805B is noticed immediately positive to me, despite strong lighting he has shown a deep black, and I was generally quite impressed with the image quality. Nevertheless, I had not yet bought the TV, because it would have cost me 980 and I wanted to wait and see if there is a lower price for Cyber Monday, luckily I was not disappointed. While the Cyber Monday I could see the TV at a price of 826 grab (100 Cyber-discount + 50 Cashback + 10 voucher). I was really lucky, because the TV was already fully booked a few seconds after starting offer.

... Well, much to my history, now it comes to this great TV:

REVIEW:
1. moving pictures / moving picture resolution
The Motion Flow "Standard" setting is well suited for football broadcasts, because there the incoming Soap effect is not noticeable. In the mode "clear" and "clear +", this effect is hardly noticeable even in films, unfortunately obscuring both settings the picture due to the "Black Frame Insertion" slightly. The only truly "Soap-Free" setting is the pulse mode. It darkens the image due to the high-Black Frame Insertion unfortunately extremely and is therefore usually even at maximum LED brightness can only be used in a completely darkened room. The UFO-test (Google) has been very positive. In active pulse mode of TV has absolutely no blur and a motion resolution of 1080p. The Sony TV delivers with this setting, the best motion picture that I could see on a TV so far, my plasma (900p motion resolution) included. But due to the low screen brightness it is sufficient only for "good".

Rating: Good

2. color / white display
In the factory settings the default mode is set very cold (blue tint, no 6500K).
With various test images I've adjusted the gain of primary colors and thus subjectively achieved a good result.

Rating: Good

3. color brightness / brilliance
The TV definitely has a lower color brightness than my old plasma. Unfortunately, you can only reduce the gain of primary colors and not increase, because otherwise I would have maybe had a little leeway.
Overall, the color brightness is good but my plasma was still a bit better ... but also has a reflective glass surface.

Rating: Good

4. LED brightness
With light sensor is activated, the TV is relatively dark, even at maximum LED brightness, accordingly you should disable this setting.
The TV delivers then also at ~ 50-60% LED intensity even during the day, a sufficiently bright image night the brightness is generally sufficient.
The pulse mode can be daytime only benefit when LED brightness and gamma are at maximum position.

Rating: Good // daytime
Rating: Excellent // night

5. Black level
The black level is better than that of my plasma ... which has cost 3 1/2 years ago still 800.
The Sony TV delivers an extremely deep black without any tunneling, which sometimes could occur when a too large amount of black in the picture on my plasma.
I can see the black level Although the purpose of a lack of hardware is not measured, but it should be (... according to some experts tests) in the region ~ 0:03 to 0:04 cd / m² are.

Note: very good (for an LCD).

6. Focus
I had my doubts that a 55-inch LCD provides a sufficient sharpness. My standard seating position is 3.8m away from the TV.
Without activated Reality Creation (noise reduction) I could see pixel noise in fact at 720p and 1080i signals.
Once this feature is activated, however, the TV provides a very sharp image, even at 1080i and 720p signals.

Rating: Very good

7. Price / Performance
If you had told me 1-2 years ago I could buy for 826 55-inch LCD TV with a presentation such quality, I would have simply not gelaubt.
As plasma owners I had in mind to switch to LCD, for me actually came only a VA panel in question.
This TV replaces my (broken) plasma not only, but is better than my purchase price in identical 51 inch plasma in almost all respects.

Rating: Very good ++

Endnote: 1.43
Hor or Not = HOT

It's really amazing how much the picture quality of LCD TVs has improved in recent years. I think that especially the 120Hz technology is an important aspect of this development, also pleased to see me that more and more manufacturers on a VA panel, which indeed provides, but with much better a poorer viewing angle bar formality than an IPS panel contrast ratio and black levels shines.
So if you do not have 5m wide sofa, outweigh the benefits of a VA panels.

8. 3D display
Before buying I have read everywhere that this TV reduces the image resolution in 3D is enabled on 720P., Accordingly, I assumed that this TV has a rather bad 3D mode, but I did not really care. Because I want my soon buy a projector that is explicitly used for (3D) movies. When I then tested the 3D mode, I was pleasantly surprised, although there is minimal crosstalk but the 3D effects come over very well and a loss of sharpness, I honestly can not tell when tucked up glasses. At the latest when Motion Flow 3D display is enabled good, comparable to my old plasma. So I can not really understand the criticism.

9. viewing angle
The TV is very angle dependent on my plasma, it did not matter from which position you have seen the TV.
At Sony, however, you have to put relatively centrally in front of the TV, otherwise the image will be distorted, for me this is not really a negative point, because I can look at the TV on each of my 4 bed possible positions without distortion.

Update:
I have now extensively occupied myself with "BRAVIA Sync".

So far I had 4 different remotes (Blu-Ray, AV receiver, TV, digital receiver). BRAVIA Sync now I just need 2 remote controls (digital receiver and TV).
With Bravia Sync enabled my TV searches for compatible Bluetooth devices and synchronizes with my TV remote control.

This can adjust the volume of the AV receiver with the Sony remote control and change keystroke between TV and HiFi speakers to for example, very practical.
I need my AV Receiver no longer turn on the unit automatically turns on as soon as I turn my TV with the Sony remote control and turns also at the same time again.
When I start my Playstation 4 recognizes "Bravia Sync" this and start my Sony TV (without AVR) when I then with 2 keystrokes in Bravia Sync menu the audio output to "Audio System" spot, start my AVR. The sound output via the audio system can be defined as a primary issue. Once the AVR has been activated, it automatically switches to the input PS4 in my AV receiver, this works because the AVR HDMI-CEC (RIHD) is certified.
The volume control of the Sony remote control then refers to the volume of my AVR's.

Overall, I feel the Device / Universal control of Sony TV's be very practical and thought I therefore my review please complete.

Update2:
A couple of other reviewers have the misconception that the 50-55 inch models feature a 400Hz 805B Panel.
The native frequency of the panel is 120Hz, the words "400 Hz" refers accordingly to the maximum possible number of calculated intermediate images.

Update3:
The TV is also suitable for football broadcasts.
I did not detect a typical LCD color banding even after one month of use.

Not mentioned adjustment options are either to the "Off" or "0" position.
My advice is to avoid a high backlight (8 max) by banding strip to minimize possible.

Note: This review is from my 2nd unit, because had the primary FR a huge Clouding spot in the center of the screen, literally a huge cloud. Fortunately, my replacement unit only very low Clouding which even in completely dark room conditions and maximum LED brightness is barely visible, that image is illuminated very homogeneously for an LCD TV.
