Sound and function okay, but probably not real 7.1

Who still has no Funkkophörer and spatial Cinema sound from Bluray want, is safe with the Sony MDR-6500 DS well served.
As other reviewers have written, the headset is not an adequate substitute for a high quality 7.1 system, but useful if you just can not use these.
The spaciousness of the sound is in any case far beyond stereo, but does not come with artificial head stereo recordings (which did not make it in the market because they require probably too little expensive technology).

Music lovers should decide whether the sound corresponds to your needs and taste.
With the correct setting on the digital input I can not complain.
The analog stereo input I have not tested because the Earphones was purchased for me only for Cinema and is connected by Blurayplayer right on SPDIF.

As the audio signals supplied via SPDIF with transmitting station will supply the accompanying headphones with true uncompressed 7.1 sound, to me, however, is a mystery.
7.1 DTS / Dolby Digital sound MasterHD is technically impossible per se in this transmission. This would require the Sendestataion instead of SPDIF connector have an HDMI connection to make use of this sound at all from Blurayplayer contrary can.
One should thus rather acceptable to good 5.1 sound expected, the example of a 7.1 source such as "Hobbit 3D" could come. Since the mixing of 7.1 HD Master Blurays often certainly more care is given to the sound, as with many simple 5.1 wafers, in my opinion, the more carefully prepared sound from the headphones turns out accordingly spatial.

Otherwise: permanently installed battery - hopefully keeps the long. Purchse is the unlikely one (except hobbyists), if the need be installed expensive serviced. For necessary time there will certainly be a new headphone model with improved features which hardly more than + battery replacement for the old unit cost (Planned Obsolszenz).

Something negative of comfort:
Ears are warm (closed system), volume control bit fiddly, but okay.

Compared is my old Sony (MDR-DS 5000 - the first Funkkopförer with Dolby Digital logo) more comfortable with similarly good cinema sound. The switches on automatically when placed, Mignon / AA rechargeable batteries, has smooth volume and balance controls and vents in the headphones that do not heat up one's ears.
The disadvantage but the old system: Photosensitive infrared transmission, no DTS and about three times as expensive as the MDR-DS 6500th
So I can give four stars to the new Sony MDR-DS 6500 because of its price / performance ratio with a clear conscience, as long as it works.
