This power cord has become necessary because the shell of the original iPhone 5 power cord was too weak and has caused damage to the leading function for less than 1 year. That is, a charge the smartphone was initially only available in certain awkward positioning of the cable, then afterwards no longer. One can assume that Apple has factored secondary purchases, otherwise they would have used from the outset a more stable material.
