1. Presentation of the protagonists and their careers on Caliban before the discovery by the Empire
2. Brief Description of the transformation of the protagonist of people superhumans, ie Astartes
3. assassinate the Emperor and mission on the planet Slanosh as Legion of Dark Angels
Apparently not fit this band in the Horus Heresie series because the whole band to the emergence of the first Legion of the Dark Angels and the development turns its protagonists.
Thus we learn in the first part of the story, as the later Primarch Lion El'Jonson by knights (Knight of the Order) Luther is found in the jungle and highly used by his superhuman physical and mental qualities to Grand Master. In addition, we are pursuing with the rapid rise of the Order in the world named Caliban. Caliban is cut off for thousands of years of Terra, the homeworld is a legend, numerous deadly monster in the woods force people to Caliban to a hard struggle for survival. So it is no surprise that the Lion takes the reins in his hand, and concerns the eradication of monsters. With his knights he fights until the last monster ....
Here we learn the other protagonists Zahariel, Nemiel, etc and know their steep careers in the Knights. Especially Zahariel is central to the stories, play nevertheless all circumstances - in good old HH-style - in his view from.
This first part of the book could already make a dreamlike fantasy story on its own and deserves absolutely five star. Gingerly, the characters and their environment, traditions and beliefs aud depth, Scanlon builds the action on here. Precisely this may seem rather slow and dull for the hardcore Warhammer fan. But when Fantasy fan, I was thrilled.
In the second part of the Emperor then appeared on who finds his long-lost son, and we are seeing a summary of the acquisition of a planet by the Empire and the recruitment of Astarte or the establishment of the Dark Angels Legion as the new Primarch Lion El'Jonson. So Scanlon in detail in the first part of the story was so short he sums up in this part. Too Bad.
In the last part we are in familiar surroundings Warhammer. The Dark Angels received a mission and must ultimately make their qualities as Astarte among evidence. This part fits somehow not quite to the previous course and content, however, is for the next band on the Dark Angels (called "Fallen Angels") is of great importance. I went to this part abruptly to an end, and I have several plot elements not fully understood. So Zahariel and Isfrael be "banished" by Caliban at the end (why !?). Luther Faithful is banished there, which in turn is well understood. For this part I can at best give three stars ....
All in all sets here Scanlon the foundation for the role that will play the Dark Angels in the Horus heresy in another band (Fallen Angels). Toll I found, to be able to follow the emergence of a legion. However, the end of the tape was not coherent and much too abrupt and incomplete. The good reviews of the following band can hope - good-natured four star.
