We use both versions - both the brown version, as well as the one with red spine. Both versions are lined inside with red velvet and are supplied with a "Dustbag". The packaging is expressly pointed out that the envelopes are not recommended for use with the (older) white plastic MacBooks (probably because there is a danger that the sheath rubs).
Basically, the quality was okay, what can be expected given the price also. However, to me the brown variant appears but processed markedly better. Apparently here another leather was used or was this less "processed". In the brown version of the leather smell is far ausgeprägert. In the red version, the leather almost like "cardboard" acts (there are so old folders that are quite similar to the touch) and the smell is somehow - strange.
Otherwise both are processed identically. Inside, the metal zippers covered with a thin plastic or rubber layer, so that the device is not scratched.
We currently use the device for an Ultrabook (Fujitsu U772) - for the sleeves are a bit too thick. The locking of the display with the rubber tabs above the left and right does not work properly. This disturbs but mE little because the notebook should not be placed in the envelope without this - the airflow then simply comes to a halt.
Basically a nice, very special, sheath. I would - apart from color preferences - prefer the brown version. Here simply provides a more "Will-Have" effect - and to go to here, after all.
The price I consider just as reasonable - at least in view of the fact that Twelve product advertises as "handmade".
UPDATE:
We have now exchanged these cases with the slightly narrower variants (BookBook for MacBook Air 13.3 inch). These cases correspond regarding the significance of the brown version. These are lined with brown fabric, not with red. Striking is the really strong smell of leather. I hold here the suspicion that such a strong smell can not come solely from the leather, but was helped along here chemically. I hope that this will improve in the next few days.
