I bought three Maigret novels in French. Maigret et le fantôme was the first of these, which I have read. I'm learning French. A dimension of learning it is therefore for me to decipher novels until the French vocabulary not skillful word in a vocabulary trainer - at LEO - create and thus appropriating these words. For this, I think the Maigret novels also suitable because they are on the one hand contain much dialogue and not written super hard. On the other hand I believe that the sometimes rather outdated vocabulary of these novels - most Maigret novels are written in the first half of the 20th century - for entry into French is quite good. There is the language once a small historical dimension, and there is not exactly the same for the beginners dangerous double. Newspeak. But you should be this historical dimension as a learner / Reading only consciously. Gradually one then reads these novels more than that they are deciphered and I find that learning success. So: Inspector Maigret is great if you want to learn to read French. In addition, the price of these booklets is manageable.
