Now for the Canon EF 70-200mm 4L IS:
Feel and quality (5 star):
1a! High-quality metal body, stable solid switches and a consistently accurate and clean processing. The zoom adjustment lightly steamed (not too easy / hard) and otherwise there is nothing to complain about. Very good, through and through.
Optical power (5 stars):
Natural colors, good contrast and many subtleties are mapped. Very nice for landscapes is the staggering level, ie foreground beautifully colored, slightly hazy blue-gray in the middle, and in the distance a again reinforced hazy effect. This gives a beautiful depth and vivid representation. Ever, the images look very harmoniously, tidy and orderly in depth. Very good, I like it.
Autofocus (5 stars):
The AF is very quiet, super fast and above all fail. The AF-MF switch is ergonomically easy to grip for the left thumb so that you do not have the viewfinder.
Sharpness and IS (5 stars):
Honestly, it's not so easy to keep the lens (especially with the long focal lengths) quiet. The IS helps the image "sticks" then properly fixed, and you can trigger. Nevertheless, I had a lot of minimally blurred images (you can easily see in the magnification). It has some time and practice needed to improve the odds. Meanwhile, however, I get a sense of the feasible and the sharpness is with all due respect of the hammer. Photographed from a distance and then all details with absolute clarity is impressive.
Bokeh (5 stars):
The Bokeh is very confident for my taste and beautiful, soft and uniform. The EF 50 II 1.8, however, is often something chopped and restless.
Price / performance (4.5 stars):
The award is presented for the performance offered in order. A high value retention over years just adds. It would be desirable lens case and tripod mount as the 2,8er.
Conclusion:
Top! Excellent workmanship, built to last. The ultra fast and accurate AF and the Image Stabilizer (IS) are accurate helpers. With practice (od. A tripod) there then excellently sharp images with natural colors.
