In addition I have bought a 6TB WD Red and a SanDisk SDSSDP-128G-G25 128GB SSD as a system disk. On this, the operating system is running - Ubuntu Server 4.14 64-bit. 14:04 because it has LTS (Long-Term Support) and is longer supplied with updates.
(!) On top of the housing, a connection for a CD / DVD drive, which would not be doing is - I do not need too. Here I wanted to the SSD mount (an adapter cable has been made to me by a colleague). After lengthy research, unfortunately, I had to find that the built-in RAID controller not the optional SATA connector (which is available on the motherboard) boots. My system is not in the raid, but in AHCI mode. That's why the hard drive plugged (without mounting frame, because this does not fit into the Einschübfächer the server) in the front slot on position 1 (far left). May look not great, but works fine, although it was a bit complicated to install the SSD. At the picture you can see how I wanted to attach the SSD. As a 5th hard drive (no system disk), it would be no problem to operate another SSD. Alternatively, there are solutions on the net to boot using a USB stick with the GRUB loader of "dials" the optional SATA connector and so starts. But I did not want to!
Volume / fan: When starting the fan rotate to 100% which is extremely loud. When the boot process is complete (2-3 minutes), the server is relatively quiet. I have him standing below my TV in a box. Barely audible, only when it is very quiet in the room, which actually never happens. The average temperature is between 35-39 ° - in spite of the little box - absolutely great!
The following runs on the server: proftpd (FTP server), lighttpd (Web server), pyLoad, Plex (was very important to me), ownCloud.
On the subject of PLEX: The processing power of the server than enough to stream movies from around 1080p (FullHD). Never the CPU goes to 100%, I think that even a 2 Plex client would run without problems. My client is a Raspberry Pi B + with RasPlex - best combination, although the RPi 2 should be clearly faster.
Conclusion: A definite buy recommendation for the Home section! The 2 GB of RAM are fully sufficient for my use.
