Caveat:
I use the device is not for games and not for surfing the Internet and I have NO Blue-ray player or Playstation.
I have the power "only" to watch and record television purchased movies, documentaries and series. But no football, no other sport.
Since I am only irregularly at home, my PVR (recording to HDD) was very important and above I will mainly report.
Since this function in the "Operating Instructions" (hahaha) and the help function is little described, I have the most means of trial and error process and questions on the LG Support found. The LG-Support is the way very quickly (always max 1 day), the answers competent and you can see that my questions were actually read and answered as individually as possible.
The negative part first:
- Worst: The connected hard drive (in my case: Intenso 2TB 3.5 "with its own power supply and USB 3.0), only with a TV device actually" read ", which the board has also formatted and with which you received has!
- In plain English: A hot spare, replacement device (even if it is the same model) or even (hopefully only after many years) follow-up device can no longer read the recorded programs !!! A clear knock-out criterion when recorded programs possibly want to archive for years!
- Since the device but otherwise (picture and sound quality, connectivity, 2D to 3D conversion, recording capabilities) like it very much, I did not return it.
- The solution: By means of a 1.5m satellite antenna cable I have my "old" HD Sat Receiver Comag SL 40HD with a connected hard drive from the TV connected (so-called looping: satellite antenna connection to your receiver, connecting cable. from the receiver (out) for TV (satellite in)).
- The TV is in this case the "Master", ie it works in all respects as if executed no receiver in front, even if the receiver is in standby. So channel list, Smart TV, recording capabilities on your hard disk. Now I take the "normal" stuff I just want to archive briefly via LG TV to the hard disk on. Only individual programs that I want my archive for longer, I take over the satellite receiver. However, one has to make sure that on the TV at that time the same channel is set as on the receiver. Otherwise there is no satellite signal to the receiver. I therefore program the corresponding broadcast on TV and the receiver. Although this is complicated, but I have not yet found a better solution.
Positives:
- The recording functions even the TV is in my opinion very good, you can program very well especially repetitions, has a choice between fixed weekdays or individually selected. Practically running in series, eg. B only once a week or, for example, Mon-Fri or 2 days per week. Small disadvantage: if you have selected the program via EPG, it's very inconvenient to enter the repetitions or different times. You have to call the programmed mission again and enter the changes, and that too for each of the points (times, weekdays, repetitions) individually recall with Save and Compile. But still more possibilities than with all my previous receivers.
- If you record a program, you can even view (only in combination with the receiver!) Another if it belongs to the same station group (or to the same transponder?). Caution: the "wrong" switching on the TV does not signal lack of kills the recording on the receiver, but vice versa.
- If you record a program on TV, you can simultaneously view a previously recorded by LG TV to the HDD shipment.
- Also shows the same station group from the connected receiver, the connected hard drive or from the device to the device equipped with HDMI input DVD player can view it while you record.
- Only (otherwise recorded) movies from an external, connected directly to the TV hard drive can not look at you while a recording is in progress.
Small Tips for Recording / Playback:
- During recording or playing back a recording from the hard disk can be opened with a press on the remote control OK button a small status window at the bottom. There you can see some information about the recording. You can use the arrow keys right and left of the Ok button now very fast forward and rewind (much faster than the "normal" flow and return keys; with this it is not even particularly "unerringly"). The time stamp "runs" in real time with, one sees so as the time "continues." (Sorry, can not express it better) The usual 10 minute commercials are so comfortable and unerringly in about 5-10 Sec overcome
- With the already often mentioned app for tablet / smartphone can even "jump" in this status window if you want, for example again at the end of a program quickly almost to the beginning or if you want to see during playback only once, whether the consignment is very top.
- When you press the Rec button once starts the direct recording without a preheating time. An even more times you press the button after a few seconds to open a small menu where you can adjust the recording end time.
- I take this direct recording also takes time-shift (pause button), because the recording - as opposed to time-shift - is stored on disk. If you really just "get out shortly" want, press shortly after the REC button, the pause button, then you can continue watching after returning to the same place. If still more intervene, you have a normal, playable recording from the time the button is pressed.
In this respect: Incredibly comfortable, so I really use the solution described on the upstream receiver only on shipments of this I would regret losing a lot.
- Picture settings: These have helped me the many different posts here eerie (thanks to Kevin and many others!), Which I also have this finally changed again a little to my personal taste.
Important: The settings should be set separately for all sources, for example, is "cinema" from the SAT input is not equal to "cinema" from the hard disk. The easiest way: (a best HD channels) Set values for the TV signal as it suits you, make a note and then at a playback of other sources again set (one). In 3D, the values are different again, here also the tinted glasses must be compensated.
- Sound settings: no preset modes, but "user settings" and "User EQ" is selected. There elected the individual frequencies to my taste and voila: a really good sound, even when compared with the old "tube".
Even better go only on the stereo system. As my stereo system (the same DVD player) has no optical input, the LG my service gave the following tips:
1. DA converter between optical output of the TV and RCA input of the plant
2. Scart connection between the system and TV
3. cables from the headphone output (3.5 mm jack) for RCA input of the plant but then the TV speakers are turned off.
I've chosen option 3, since I will not need the TV speakers.
By the way: a super-duper-HDMI cable with ARC and all the trimmings utilized for this purpose nothing because the LG TV provides no audio output signal via HDMI!
2D to 3D Conversion:
naturally can not get true 3D approach (no pop-outs), but if, like me is too stingy for a Blu-ray player and the corresponding slices It's a nice compromise. There are also documentaries and series eh not as true 3D. Just the landscaping reports of new species with low-flying cameras are "auxiliary 3D" very cool. In reports on cities to get in front of him, like sitting in the middle. The 3D image settings should not exaggerate, I have the mode "cinema" as a pleasant one. In 3D it is very important not laterally displaced to sit and TV. If possible in a dark place I feel the difference between a bright environment during the day and dark at night as much.
Conclusion:
Super TV for the money and when it comes to 3D conversion, connection options and PVR capabilities more than I expected.
