Caveat: I am very impressed by the high quality of the MacBook and the iPhone. I get along very well with all Apple products, the Apple "SuperDrive" but is quite a scrap.
The now returned drive has a serious design flaw that is specified in Internet forums of many others just as DVD can not be ejected!
It occurs regularly that any CD's and DVD's are faulty - "shit happens". The problem: The Apple SuperDrive can not deal with such discs, even the "Finder" is permanently blocked. The drive itself
is also blocked permanently, there is no eject button and also no eye for a paperclip Rescue as Windows drives. None of the 20 methods that has been going around the Internet here the inserted DVD can bring to light.
The drive that is now I resend it unusable is still a photo DVD in there that probably has some damage.
In my opinion, Apple should launch a product recall for all drives in this series because they have all the same mistake. At the very least one would have to control the external drive so reprogram that after a time of 10 seconds, a "time-out Automatic" is engaged, and any "non-digestible" DVD / CD spits. Currently, it is not yet clear whether Apple realizes the system failure and whether it will ever come to such update of control.
The DVD, which is now inextricably in the drive you can keep and discard does not contain relevant data, only holiday.
As an appendix, and confirmation of my remarks: a discussion that I found in the original Apple site community. Conclusion there: Drive to give away, because all commercially available DVD drives do not work entirely without problems, only the original Apple drive!

Yes if the disc is stuck in the drive the only way to get it out is to Disassemble the drive.
Go out and buy a standard Tray Load External DVD drive and you will never have this problem again. You can find thesis type drives for around $ 30. And They work better then the Apple SuperDrive.
It does not have to have or sold by the Apple name on it for it to work on your Air. Any make or model will work.

My tip: take the SuperDrive in general from the program because once a faulty DVD or CD is inserted, the device is ready for the workshop!
