When first setting up, I'm a little scared, because the legs pretty dangle when the lock is open. Closed one notices but nothing more, the stand is quite stable. At full length extended (also center column) carries it though my SLR (about 1.5kg), but swings to tidy. The head holds good though. Since I bought it away from the camera, but I need not excessive stability. It already fits into a relatively small backpack and the weight is really great.
