I am beginner in the area and was looking for a NAS "inexpensive" alternative to put my data in the home and external network specifically available. In my Synology operates a 3 GB WD RED.
About the most diverse and extensive adjustment possibilities Much has been written. An extensive German support forum is available and also a lot of video Tut's, which facilitates the establishment decided.
For me a MacBook Pro and a Windows PC to save the data. Furthermore, a lot of mobile access devices to the NAS, also via the very reliable app's Synology! The data is also backed up to an external hard drive via USB 3.0 that hangs on the NAS again!
An important tip: If you access from external to the NAS, for example invites the upload speed of your DSL connection, not the download speed via DYNDNS! Thus, the exchange of large data packets from external is very limited!
