For this reason, I've bought the Sony Alpha 7R mid-May, and I'm almost a little in love with my mini full-frame camera. In addition I have done my two lenses from Zeiss (35mm f2.8 and 55mm f1.8). The 35mm is my immerdrauf lens, and unlike the Nikon camera is now always in this backpack, it weighs just 630 grams and consumes little space. Who rumträgt the camera a few hours, or as I entrains at high mountain hikes that Sony will love.
In terms of image quality, the D600 in the 7r Nothing stands for: Despite a higher f-stops, I prefer the Zeiss 55mm Nikon 50mm f1.4 at any time, it is very attractive for portraits with super Bokeh. Good experience I have with the 35mm Zeiss lens. The law has indeed bad reviews get (including Amazon, especially for the price at f2.8) but I find the glass wonderfully sharp for landscapes. I take pictures with Jpeg, and only in exceptional cases in the raw format, in low light conditions (even a note in the first two weeks I have a NEX Lens 20mm - therefore on the 7r 30mm -. Used was solid, but unspectacular I thus can fully recommend the Zeiss lenses in combination with the 7r, the quality of images is very compelling and life compared to the NEX lens).
A very positive surprise is the electronic viewfinder. With the Sony 7r I photograph a lot more often with the manual settings, it's fun to change it in real time the effects on the image including depth (!) Can be seen. One has the feeling here, to photograph with a camera of the future. Since the Nikon can not keep up. Incidentally, the quality of the viewfinder is so good that a lot of pictures in it look more interesting than the computer. The viewfinder in my view, by default, a bit too bright, so I've made these little darker.
The often criticized the autofocus works well enough for me. So far I had been some situations where the AF slightly inflated at dawn, but I found the problem. But of course it is a fact that the Sony AF is a weak point, and here the Nikon is clearly stronger. Conclusion: For me as a runner and hiker the Sony is more manageable and better for me so, sports and wildlife photographers should however be careful.
One advantage is the way yet that the Sony is much more discreet in everyday use as a Nikon. I had the camera for a stay in Ukraine there, and in demos so you can take pictures with less attention the small Sony just does not look like a professional camera (a bit like a Leica). The often criticized Ausloesegeräusch incidentally quite loud, does not bother me personally, but it has something pleasantly own. For the concert hall but the 7r is unsuitable.
Incidentally, I had a few weeks of operation already dirt on the sensor, which however was fairly straightforward eliminate with a special wiper cleaning liquid and to finally the sensor is (unscrew lens, already he is in front of a) within easy reach. Not liked the position of the C1 knob, which is used among other things, calling the manual focus point me. However, this can be reprogrammed (with me now in the middle of the turnstile, the OK button). The menu could be a bit Thoughtful in my eyes. The lack of an external charger the battery (it needs to be charged in the case) is an outrage, here Sony should really stoking.
Some doubts remain with respect to Sony's reputation in terms of service and the longevity of the camera, maybe that still flows in an update. There are still 4 star.
So here is my conclusion:
Pros:
+ Extremely attractive in terms of shape and weight
+ Super electronic viewfinder
+ With Zeiss lenses of the image quality was really convincing, even when compared to a full frame Nikon camera
Cons:
- Expensive, especially with the premium lenses
- Equipment (no flash, no GPS, no charger)
Update after a further four weeks usage:
I can understand the bad reviews not really - really criticize people that you can insert the battery in both directions? This is done once, then you have the plan. Flickering in the viewfinder, and the irritated? Hm, my viewfinder shows me what I want and need to see - is namely as the image after the prints look like, including depth of field, exemption etc .. So, again remember, you have a full-frame camera in your pocket, really, and all possibilities of photography while at 700 grams, with lens. Super!
By the way make the Sony Apps also a lot of fun - at the beginning I thought to myself, what is a quark, but who once photographed trains and buses with the image in the setting Rapp Toy Camera just have so much fun as I did. Or maybe not, because it's not like Canon, Nikon or, and yes, it is a consumer product, but it is fun and that's why you go yet.
