Dragon Ball - Revenge of King Piccolo (DVD-ROM)

Customer Review

This game is a good representation of the spirit of Dragon Ball and follows the adventures of young Goku.

Graphics: it's nice and colorful. The characters are Cell shading (cartoon style) on the sets in conventional 3D. This may shock at first, but you get done quickly. The story is told with a mixture of 3D video pre-calculated (the same graphics in the game, so) and drawing characters that appear on the screen in the dialogues.

Gameplay: The game is a mixture of platform and beat'em all. Basically you type, we jump, we type, we jump, we encounter a boss and it's over. In terms of linkages, there is not much to say, what brings this game a beat'em all rather "old school". Moreover, the battle mode to remind strongly the classics (Final Fight or Double Dragon, for example). IMHO, the game suffers from one thing above all: the lack of cooperation in 2 player mode. There is a multiplayer "battle arena", which is funny for about 15 minutes.

Lifespan: for the genre, it is pretty good, although it will not look far. Failure of the title of this view is its repetitiveness (much like all the titles of the genre, in fact). Would have liked small phases (driving a car with Bulma, look crystal balls on a map) for a change of pace. As in the Budokai series, you earn Zenis (local currency) by playing the story mode and participating in the World Tournament (but very repetitive very lucrative) used to purchase upgrades and bonuses.

Overall, Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo is a good little game no-brainer that will please children and adults who grew up with the series. Without the license, the game would be forgettable but relive the adventures of Son Goku is a real pleasure.

A very good title for the budget it represents.
