Hyperion, which must be read in context of the whole cycle built by Dan Simmons around this imaginary planet, so with the other seven volumes (pocket) which constitute the whole "Endymion Hyperion +", is one of the greatest book SF of all time. IT is impossible to summarize it as it is impossible not to be struck by the incredible imagination of the author and impossible not to be touched by the beauty that emanates from the end of the cycle (see Endymion). Impossible also not to take the brunt of the lives of the protagonists as the first volume sets and finally impossible to imagine living without reading this masterpiece. Hyperion, of course, is using the SF only as pretext to thrust reflection on the different roles of politics and religion, at the height of some books which is the main object. The difference here is that the author is expressed by a gigantic compelling parable of an almost encyclopedic knowledge, and an undeniable force. As you can see, I love this book.
