Before providing you with my detailed views on this excellent, but perfectible, EOS 70D case, I want to clarify that my Photoshop CS5 software does not open RAW files that are generated by the 70D !!!
It seems that this issue is caused by an update to be carried out on the add-on Camera Raw, though, I realized "an" update that some Internet forums strongly advised to perform, gold, despite this update performed, RAW files / 70D continue to be turned away by Photoshop CS-5!
I confess that I began to lose patience because I am very familiar with the use of Photoshop CS5 and it annoys me greatly to feel that we are trying to force my leg so that I use the software provided by Canon DPP or then, which forces me to go to the cashier to buy upgrades in order to migrate to Photoshop CS6 !!
If you work with Photoshop CS-5 and you've found the trick to open your RAW / 70D files, I am taking your advice and other suggestions (!) Because I really need a helping hand to solve the problem of "incompatibility" between Photoshop CS5 and RAW / 70D!
ON THE 70D:
I am already owner of a Canon EOS 50D housing which was my 2nd DSLR after buying an EOS 7D I sold two years later ...
The EOS 50D has been my faithful companion during More 3 years - notably, becoming my appointed last stand of casing for proxy sessions photos taken on the flowers and other plants growing in the countryside or urban ...
I appreciated a lot its general ergonomics, very nice grip (especially with its fixed grip handle), colorful menus by group function / display parameters is with great clarity, the undeniable quality of the images was developed supercharged by its sensor 15 Mpix - and the pleasant sensation of a real robustness produced by its internal frame was molded magnesium alloy ...
For 18 months I have patiently waited to replace my 50D by one of his successors to 2 digits that show up to the illustrious name template.
The rather disappointing results from the tests performed by the independent lab finally convinced me not to procure his immediate successor, 60D - in this respect and after having informed extensively on the Web, I preferred it the case D7000 manufactured by Nikon because all the time tests indicated that the dynamic range was wider for the D7000 and the range of colors transcribed by two competing sensors was richer in the D7000 than the 60D (!) - short, D7000 crushed the seam flat 60D in almost all areas, and even at the level of robustness because of the polycarbonate chassis 60D!
However now, the new EOS 70D marks a fairly sharp break with the desperate wanderings 60D because many vital improvements were made on the 70D.
First, the dynamic range of the sensor 70D has been improved to reduce the large gap between product ranges equal Canon / Nikon, especially between the 60D and D7000.
Same conclusion that we draw on the range of color that has been increased for the 70D to reduce the gap with its counterpart, the Nikon D7100 ...
Doing so blindingly obvious from the pictures, there is now a real gap between the color palette visible on the photos that are generated by the 50D and 70D that of - as compared, ranges generated by the 50D seem more raw and less fine (!) ...
On the other hand, if one relies on the business case, the greatest technological innovation 70D accomplishes this come from autofocus "live view" mode that allows for a speed up to the point much more faster and more thin (!) ...
Identically to the housing 50D, 70D Physical ergonomics is tactilely very nice because the side handle is big enough and dug to allow an excellent grip with the right hand where all control keys exposure parameters are well positioned, particularly, the button of "iso", since this situation is absolutely not valid for the Nikon D7000 which case the "iso" is on the left of the control panel while suffering from a fairly small handle to grip right hand (!) - at this level, the 50D and 70D are proving to far better use than their counterparts designed manufactured by Nikon ...!
Another positive point: the shutter speed is not clamped so petty to 1 / 4000s as is the case for the Canon EOS 6D or Nikon D610, thus, it is possible to perform in bright shots with relative openness that will be 2 times more thanks to its max speed of 1 / 8000s.
Side faults, I noted two very unpleasant ergonomic problems in the design of the 70D which earned him one star less in my note:
1 - The key to control the depth of field (CDP) is really tiny, secondly, it was poorly repositioned for use by the right hand, having been moved TOO below the edge of the insertion optics, it follows that the (end of) finger must exert upward force to operate the CDP command instead of lateral force! ...
2 - The stunning clarity of the control menus has been lost since the menu has become confused by having been deprived of his layout full color CAR there are more various colors assigned to horizontal tab [red / blue / yellow / brown / green] illustrating the various housing settings groups (!) - yet this is very unfortunate, especially if you start with a reflex ...!
Despite these two shortcomings of ergonomics, the fact remains that the 70D is an excellent vintage in the technological line of housings 2-digit Canon - in short, if your budget allows, it is a good investment 70D while being a very valuable alternative to purchasing the box Nikon D7100 ...
