Here also I need to pack on the nose. Too many times I only had the iPhone at hand and annoyed me afterwards that I had not brought the camera. Although I use the Micro Four Thirds system, which in itself is much more compact than some DSLR equipment, but with two or three lenses is just also nothing more with starting in your pocket and out it comes.
The GM1 is to close the gap here. On one hand, it is almost as compact as the current best Compact, the Sony RX100 II, but here with the larger sensor and to be able to use with the possibility of the great range of lenses from Panasonic and Olympus.
These great usability via the touch screen, Wi-Fi on board and a very high-quality finish. what more do you want?
Now that there are already (unfortunately) a few points: the display is not hinged, a large drawback for me. Since no external viewfinder can be attached, one is already limited here. Said RX100 II has a folding screen, apparently that's so in size already ...
The feel is indeed excellent in itself, but without the outrageously expensive handle I was afraid that my slides a good piece of your fingers fast times. Here Panasonic has probably been looking at Olympus: much needed accessory is offered at outrageous prices. Very unfortunate.
Now, to the great benefit of the camera: image quality. The same sensor as the big sister camera GX7 is installed, and it shows. An absolutely perfect for this size camera image quality delighted the photographers. Of course you have been here if you want to achieve perfect results, recourse to fixed focal length lenses. But there are, for example, the Panasonic 20mm 1.7, the Olympus 17mm 1.8, the Olympus 12mm 2.0 and 45mm 1.8 the Olympus compact lenses that are perfect for everyday use.
The Set the attached new mini-zoom (12-32mm) is certainly a very compact lens, miracle but you should not expect. I go mainly the 20mm Panasonic mounted and as an alternative lens 12mm in the jacket pocket. So it really comes close with a pocket camera to a picture quality that leaves many entry-level DSLR behind.
And do not be afraid because of the operation: despite fewer buttons, the camera is a dream to handle, thanks be to the operating concept with touchscreen. The Panasonic has (as with the GX7) get perfect way.
As everyday camera, I had already tested many: the RX100, the X10 from Fuji, the Nikon P7700 and so many more. All have me but ultimately unconvincing. The GM1 is finally a camera on the market that combines compactness and superior image quality. And gives me the freedom to use bright fixed focal lengths ...
Clear one must remember that in addition to camera lenses are then also to acquire, if you are not already working with the Micro Four Thirds system.
But for owners of Olympus or Panasonic, which have one or the other lens at home already could be a real dream camera that here.
As always, of course here: Antesten form and a personal opinion.
Whether I for the above limitations may depart a point? No, the camera in the sum of their ways to be great.
Nevertheless, Panasonic should deal for a successor model with the folding screen and maybe even grab the handle equal to.
And please, Panasonic: provides your cameras if offered in different colors, but then also in the kits in all color possibilities. The current policy that the color combination only overseas, the other is to have only in Europe enjoys the customers in the smallest way, leading to so many frustrated conversations during photofinishing service ....
