Death Rituals (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Nine years have passed since that Six Feet Under "Maximum Violence" published, not only the first album without founding member Allen West (Obituary Ex-guitarist), but m. E. also the best - until now! After all was the predecessor "Commandement" (2007) in relation to the controversial "13" (2005) have a significant increase, burns "Death Rituals" a Death Metal fireworks from that it is a true delight!
The opening track "Death By Machete" begins with a for SFU ratios almost progressive and slayeresk seemingly clean guitar lick à la "Spill the Blood", the same applies in principle to the sinister Outro "Crossing the River Styx". "Crossroads to Armageddon" could almost pass as a sombre sound experiment similar to the early Slipknot, including half geflüstertem clean (!!!) singing (yes, from the Chris Barnes!) In "Bastards" is converted to Motörhead tracks (even if it's a Crue cover is ;-)) and "Eulogy for the Undead" is waiting with a shout choir and arabesque elements of which are reminiscent of Pro-Pain's "Prophets of Doom". Wow!
Let's be honest: Who would have thought Six Feet Under as a development ?! Or we call it might prefer "broadening horizons" because the changes keep as much under that one the one hand, positively surprised, but mingle with the other hand, well-known elements. So for example, offers "Seed of Filth" usual SFU-fare, "Crematorium" tried a short bass intro to push the average speed and "Shot in the Head" - one of my favorites - begins with a message that is spoken on an answering machine and probably can be interpreted as programmatic for the new and totally unexpected ways ingeniously unusual album:

"[...] By the time you discover what you believe to be the truth There Will Be No One left to save, Because I have perfected my technique killing!"

For absolute purists that may be a little irritating, as for "Reign in Blood", "South of Heaven" on some Slayer and "The Code is Red ..." may have appeared to some Napalm Death fans. For when it was said that SFU go back into the studio to record a new album, you do not let it be known in the slightest that the new album would turn out so versatile. The surprise is really succeeded! Well, love Metallica, so it goes! Not only artificially generate hype and tear open the door, and then deliver a rock-solid but unspectacular though album that can not meet the expectations stoked!
For me, "Death Rituals" with Benedictions "Killing Music", the (Death) Metal album of the year 08!

PS Who the Digi-Pack prefers the normal CD case and can on the bonus tracks, which consist of only three live versions of older songs, dispense, can equal access to the normal version and need the limited edition not only great to observe.
