Second Wind, immortalized by Melville with a mastery that hardly manage to match, is an anti-novel. The old Gu, distressed Ugly outdated benchmarks, would be almost ridiculous with his code of honor that dates to the court of miracles: he portrayed the image of man that he imagines to be correct, but is not an image of Epinal.
The characters are very strong, everyone is thick, each in its logic, each in his way he does not deviate because he can not deviate. "Second Breath" is a Greek tragedy written in a simple style, devastating simplicity.
