England's Newest Hit Makers (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Who would Yesteryear seriously thought that (at least) 3 of the men pictured on the front cover good 50 (!) Years later, still stand on the stage and would make common ruckus?
Maybe just said gentlemen (Jagger, Richards, Watts) at the very least ...
Fair enough: An old Blues-Man (such as BB King) with a gray head on the stage - that would still. But 70-year-old, who play Rock & Roll ????

And, yes, that goes well - and how !!
The Rolling Stones are much more than simply just a rock & roll band - not even such a "ridiculous" titles such as "biggest R & R band of all time" may be the now in good retirement age that arrived Gentlemen justice ...
Rather, the Stones have become a kind of institution, a living proof that music - and be it only rock music - is not a question of age!

That's where playing the beginnings of the Rolling Stones (whose name is well known to a Muddy Waters song called "Rollin 'Stone" back) a crucial role!
The young twenties Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones and Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman of the somewhat older had found each other on the odd detour. Especially a certain Alexis Corner since had his hands in the game ...
In order not to be too detailed: 5 just said young men had - despite quite different life backgrounds - a huge passion in common: the blues!

And this was not even necessarily the greatest merit of the young Stones - namely, that they - like dozens of other young bands that time also - the Blues and worshiped him from prying teenagers (and even older interested) gave the best ... No , I think so (in retrospect, of course) that the greatest merit of the early Rolling Stones is that they have always openly said that they are the ones whose music they played there, worshiped from the heart. Not Elvis, The Everly Brothers, or for example, a Bill Haley and the Comets to the (primarily) interested these London milk faces, no were - rather, it was the dark-skinned Blueser from different angles of the (oh so distant) USA, the as idols served. And that is at least in so far remarkable as that all their models were not necessarily become stars in their homeland, they - even had to struggle to be heard - on the contrary. Well, it was in some - very conservative - over the United States at the time frowned far more "Negro music" (pardon me this expression) to hear as in the United Kingdom of those days ...

It is clear that the former Stones spokesman Brian Jones always clearly underscored the fact that the Rolling Stones were a blues band and not a boring, austauchbare Rock & Roll Imitation (what's that time, incidentally, was a gazillion).
As such, it has a Sir Jagger and his men have been so many years later, almost embarrassed to have received from various journalists and professionals the title "largest R & R band of all time" missed ... What irony!
So you could say well, I think that the longevity of the Rolling Stones was also in its initial purists role, as they do not completely indulged commercial trends (where also the Blues then certainly attracted a wide audience) ...

Annotate want to just trimmed trains of thought (as I guess you could actually fill books) only that I find all of these facts interesting insofar as many (still young) people of my age group (I'm a 85er) do not know that it is the Rolling Stones before "Satisfaction", "Ruby Tuesday" or "Start Me Up" (which anyway until much, much later came) announced! It gives me even more than once happened that I got replies a verwundertes Aha or Oh, when I spoke in the wake of a musical history lay exchanges of views that the early albums of the Rolling Stones were all very blue-oriented and, moreover, almost exclusively cover songs would include ... Many - and also those quite interested in music - is obviously unaware that the (supposedly) 'largest R & R band in the world "have even started a little blues performers ...

So, with the present disc, this circle up!

The simply-titled debut (the suffix "England's Newest Hit Makers" came later from marketing reasons added) is the already amazingly callous attempt of 5 whippersnappers, to try as a blues artist. Actually is clear from the outset that only 20-year-old can never ever sound like seasoned 40- or 50-year-old ...
Surprisingly it, however, is that - despite all the "virginity", which adheres to the one or the other song then - remains a completely distinct, unspecified definable, yes almost very own charm. And that's what made this (later) "Bad Boys" of London from - their own unique access to the Blues ... Of course, it would take a few more years, until the arc ultimately really had to get out (eg you can hear the excellent " Beggars Banquet "of 1968, when the stones should finally find their own distinctive approach to their kind of blues), but actually sound all songs on the debut album in their own way very mature!
There are also - in addition to real blues rags, such as "I'm A King Bee" precisely - yet groovy R & B tracks, such as Buddy Hollies "Not Fade Away" (which is thankfully on the anniversary compilation "GRRR!" has taken into account), the rock-trembling "Route 66" or the groovy, quickly proffered "I Just Want To Make Love To You" ... Musically prove the Stones anyway already in their earliest beginnings great maturity and as great a sense.
Also one or another original composition is already included, such as the (admittedly) still quite inconsequential "Tell Me" or even "Little By Little", which - like many of the very early Stones compositions incidentally - even with the pseudonym " Phelge "is subtitled ...

In short: The debut of the Rolling Stones already has an amazing range of musical skill and flair on and underpinned her (you'll forgive graciously) "saucooles" statement - namely that that you open and honest black bluesmen admired (or example, of course, a Chuck Berry)! (- Apparently at least in those days not And who were the Blues, as the origin of all popular music, probably influenced at least as much as open the example have a Elvis Presley, The Beatles, among others never added!)
Getting used to (but precisely for this reason also interesting) might be that Mick Jagger's voice sometimes unfamiliar "innocent", almost "boyish" (in a broader sense, of course) sounds. If he, for example because it sings that he wants nothing of a girl more than to make love to her, then take the these "brave" voice does not really from - but, as I said above, a total of successful piece of this.
My personal highlight - in addition to the highly successful (was released as a single) and actually improved Cover "Not Fade Away" (which, came only to memory of some Buddy Holly - of this tune, or at least parts of it, but without has doubt in turn borrowed from a Bo Diddley-number very famous) - doubt the gruff staged and great (rough) sung "Route 66" which perhaps most impressively proves what one of these very young blues and R & B Troop everything could expect. And those expectations should in the coming years and decades, so be a surpassed again and again ... But these are again many other large and small success stories that make up the Rolling Stones to what they are today (unbroken) - the most durable rock band in the present!

Collectors do not come to this debut over anyway, but also other interested parties, the primarily "only" the hits (as well as those who are indeed many) know the band should listen before as soon as possible to talk pure. It is worthwhile in any case !!

PS I, as (albeit young) Stones fan, like two successor works frankly better! The US edition "12x5" for example (I have therefore arisen because the UK's version, "The Rolling Stones No.2", no longer existed) is - similar to the debut - predominantly equipped with cover versions. However, here is terms for my (modest) has a somewhat (yet) abgebrühterer, souveränerer, sometimes lässigerer access to existing material available ... The Nachnachfolger - the legendary "Out Of Our Heads" (but not necessarily initially grab here for UK version that then not contained mega-hit singles you can then integrate with the Singles Collection "The London Years" with one stroke in his collection!) proved so then, apart from some gloss points of interpretation alien composed pieces that one was able, to engage with their own song material for the stars (which is then subsequently should deepen the gulf between the (then of course, not so designated) Glimmer Twins and Brian Jones infinity) ...

We see so many stories there'd be there to tell - exciting, funny, interesting, but also very tragic and sad ... (Maybe we'll meet again in one way or another Stones Rezi - really would be my pleasure!)

With the present product in any case has taken all its glorious beginning! And actually it's my part yes almost a "crime" to give "only" 4 stars this debut work ... Looking back and compared (as already mentioned) with another (the almost countless) Stones releases, I consider "The Rolling Stones - England's Newest Hit Makers "with 4 stars but halfway meet ...

A must-have for Stonologen and music collectors! Perhaps also a worthwhile investment for those wishing to go in search of clues and want to find out what makes so because these present rock Opas special and unique!

Try it, BUY IT !!
