I am surprised by what I read. Admittedly, I've done both PC games and I have appreciated the originality of this universe, but I understand better now the craze around this dear Sapkowski! IT must also remember that it is the work that inspired the video game and not the reverse (when a game generates a series of books, this is seldom good!), And that the author is indeed although a true writer, which constantly feels reading the first book. What struck me most is how Sapkowski plays with the codes of the fairy tale. I have read parodies or reinterpretations of famous tales, but frankly, I do not recall having read of as tasty! We obviously recognize and Snow White (there has even seven gnomes!) Or Beauty and the Beast. But where it becomes very interesting is that the author literally dynamite these arch-known references in appropriating body and soul to incorporate them into the very dark world, sometimes creepy, he created. Cruelty, disgusting rape, human and non-human decay, plain meanness, it is a vision of life and well black people we book Sapkowski in his work, so we swim here in full Dark Fantasy with strong traditional folklore content and believe me, it feels good. Pending the result of the Iron Throne, I can not stand the heroic-fantasy productions, which I find an inanity and banality nameless face Martin giant. Well I must admit that the author of the Witcher fills a gap that I was desperate to find some! Ultimate satisfaction: the stories are short, sometimes very short, and it's a real treat to see how Sapkowsi puts his characters in very unusual situations for this kind of story, all with a very creaky humor often felt that shows the whole spirit of this author. Go for it, you will not be disappointed!
