We have titled with "De-Facto Standard" because it does not really after another, portable players are to our knowledge, the radio and CD and USB AND cassette and line-in (Aux) unites in itself. In addition, our first device of this type ever exactly a Tchibo, Aldi, Lenco and Unknown CD radio player has survived. And since we now have 2 of each device must be measured so that with us.
RADIO
=====
The radio has a PLL tuner (ie, a once tuned station remains there!) For FM and 30 memory locations (AZ3856 -. 20 seats, plus MW). Finally, end with knobs in the nursery where you eh never finds a station, finally we have not 1984 !!!
CASSETTE
========
The cassette adapter works noise (virtually noiseless), reliable and of good quality. Difficult today to get such a good, sturdy cassette part. Our cartridges are mostly over 20 years old.
CD Player
==========
The CD portion will also work quietly and reliably (at AZ3856 for 2 years under almost constant use because our kids love radio plays). An own "repair" was carried out -> see below!
USB connection
=============
For us, an important purchasing criterion. The USB port (on the front, behind a rubber dust cover) reads all kinds of USB sticks. Even us is not a problem - ran into - with cheap USB sticks promotional gift. Hint: We also have an iPod Shuffle (5th generation) - the works as well :)
POWER SUPPLY AND CONSUMPTION
==============================
The power consumption in standby is not really measurable (The device is either on batteries (run 6 x LR20) or 220V (IEC connector C7, insulated that no ground, common for this class of device). This works without hesitation, without any noise or other problems.
We mention here specially because the old model (AZ3856) had an (inferior) AC adapter. This power supply generated during operation a high, annoying buzzing noise (from the speakers), which bothered particularly when going to sleep. Remedy managed only a superior power supply or the operation by means of batteries (with us a set of batteries).
The problem took care of itself with the current model, as Philips has therefore reworked, which has surprised us very positive - good job !!!
SOUND
=====
For this type very well. The physics is of course not outwitted (bass reflex, plastic sound body), but you can sometimes even sound for the casual garden party so without anyone "Brüllwürfel" has to say. For the children Birthday Disco it was good enough. Four (default) "sound programs" (Classic, Pop, Jazz, Rock and Flat) offer plenty of choice here.
Sound purists will not come at their expense, but read anyway not until here :)
FEATURES
==============
Sleep Timer: "Papaaaa ?? Kaaann I höreeeen nooooch CeeDeeee?" "Clear my angel! I'll put it ok to 15 minutes?" "Thanks Dad!" So the father is a hero, the music comes by itself (after adjustable 120, 90, ... 15 minutes) and the children can sleep. And what Papa does not like a hero? ;)
Switchable display lighting: the lighting is very bright; very good for the operation during the day. Even better is the very, very useful feature that you can turn it off! Good thought along, Philips, because so the kids will fall asleep to the dark!
Remote control: also very, very useful! It prevents boisterous children's hands too fast too much wear the device itself. Both remotes (old and new) are identical. A little tip: to change the battery First turn the small screw on the back! Although it is behind, but our brain has these input data is not processed in any way. Only after notice of our older child)
Opening the device: About 1 year after receipt of the first device, the CD cover is no longer opened. Something had fallen. For such purposes, we have a set of (very) long screwdriver (300mm), making the unit open without hesitation Lies (pay attention to the arrow-marked holes, this screw must be loosened). He must then proceed concentrate - as some plug from the CD drive and pulled off course must be properly connected again. But worked without problems.
To light the way, a Lego Fireman came (who kept well inside the flap). In addition, (bass reflex hole) was found in the speakers still a chic Lillifee (?) - Finger Ring and two gummy bears (flavor we have not checked!).
So, all in all, a full recommendation !!!
