The language of the book is somewhat reminiscent of the older versions of Grimm's Fairy Tales - the somewhat archaic formulations in the otherwise lightweight and easy-to-read style create a nice "It-was-once" -Patina and disseminate a lyrical and slightly melancholic-enthusiastic mood that sometimes a little creepy anmutet.
Very short chapters of 1-2 pages should probably stop the reader to want to read on and on. Unfortunately, the book works by little leaps and bounds and prevented my opinion, the immersion in the story. Initially I thought it was still interesting as artifice, in the course of the book, it has me but increasingly disturbed. And although I found the Woodcutter interesting and likeable as a character, his character is not quite through drawn into the depths, he stays a little flat and not really tangible for me. This maintains a distance that I could not be bridged and that gave me the feeling of not really get into the story. Too bad there are many fantastievolle and beautiful ideas that I otherwise liked.
Therefore, not all full marks as the last bit was missing. Beautiful approaches that have been executed but not quite convincing.
