Because I run this disk on Ubuntu 4.12 in a HTPC, I noticed in the operating about every 12 seconds a clack or clicking sound. At first I thought the board does not make it much longer. After doing some research on the internet I found out then the cause of the Click, it is described as IntelliPark problem. Seemingly aimed at reducing to a ramp of air resistance and thus the energy consumption of the drive by parking the read heads. Under Linux, but that does not work properly and thus the plate parked every 12 seconds their heads. Thus, the 'Load Cycle' every time is increased by 1. For the 'Load Cycle' but there is a limit (approximately 300,000), then the disk failure and must be replaced Reports. This limit is reached during normal operation after a few months!
Under DOS there is a tool of WD, the wdidle3 called to limit or disable the parking operations. Under Ubuntu Linux I have the idle3 tools used to turn off Park operations (the highest value).
Now the drive is functioning properly, because it is fast and quiet and hopefully live a long time.
However, care should be made aware that these plates as with IntelliPark are not recommended for Linux.
