In her fairy tale left it at the Brothers Grimm is not simply with the writing down of the collected tales and legends, but expressed them equal their mark on.
This novel tells about the fact that the texts in the Bible anything contained as happened to be there. Even more clearly, the entire contents of Scripture was planned over time, written and the truth censored on stengste.
Who now but expects a further narrative with criticism of the Catholic Church who will be surprised, because how the Vatican is involved, will be left open here.
Responsible is a millennia-old monk brotherhood that in a citadel, carved into südlche Taurus Mountains on the territory of modern Turkey, curls up into itself. Since the enclave near the town of Ruin is not subject to the Turkish Jurisdikation, the monks can the essence of the so-called present there. Hold "sacrament" secret, which give rise to most of them, that this is a genuine relic, while a few of my that the citadel is for the purpose an enormous crime to conceal.
But not only the Öffenlichkeit is left about the true relationships in the dark, but it is also only a minority of the monks inside the citadel, which knows the secret of "sacrament". This Geheimnisträger call Sancti and report directly to the Department. This in turn has the task that never penetrates a word about the form of "sacrament" to the outside, because you could shake the joints with that knowledge, the world. Here are absolutely all means allowed and desired. In fact, everyone who has ever tried to escape from the Citadel, died or disappeared a violent death.
The plot of the novel takes place in our time and begins when one, just for Sanctus made, monk escape actually succeed because he did not, like his predecessors, the mountain hinunter- but climbs. The abbot with his Rollkommando is initially relieved because the escaped hardly has a chance to escape alive from there. Sweat he gets only when it turns out that this also was not the intention of the monk.
Even more problematic for the abbot, it is, as there is a full sister of Entflohenden.
This is Liv Adamsen and is the real protagonist of the story. With it, the reader embarks on the search for traces of details life and death of their disappeared for years, brother. They receive support from the Turkish Inspector Davud Arkadian, as well as an organization that exactly the opposite of the will, which intend the Brotherhood in the citadel of ruin.
Simon Toyne actually comes from the movie area. There he was screenwriter, director, producer and even actor.
According to information provided to him by presenting stories of other not enough, however; he wanted to tell his own stories. So he broke 2007, all tents in his native England from, moved to France and became a professional writer.
SANCTUS is his first published novel.
As far as the story itself, so the idea is of course not entirely new, but it's a nice variation on the theme: What did the founding fathers of the Christian religion really secretive?
I mean, clearly you can tell by the work that the author originally was part of the film industry. The chapters are very short, possibly breaking the most exciting moment, so that you just have to read on. I could imagine it all as wonderful film.
However, therein lies the disadvantage. Often the chapters seem like parts of a whole chapter. Surely this fragmentation increases the speed of the narrative, but while that may be in a movie worth seeing, it annoys me in a novel rather. Especially in the middle part, where Liv studied together all the puzzle pieces to the death of her brother, this artificial increase in the voltage is not necessary. It is a reader curious enough anyway, because you are trying to unravel the mystery with.
Another indication of the close of the author to the camera, is the flat drawings of the characters in this story. No person is actually received and we learn little about the motivations why someone is the way he finally does, apart from the reasons that will be held one right under your nose.
The latter is also interesting because Toyne has the whole story from the beginning created a trilogy. Generally, it is questionable whether a writer has to really tell in several parts of his first work, but if you already make so, then it would certainly have been preferable to use the first part to a deeper introduction of the protagonists.
Anyway: In the event that you are only interested in the answer to the riddle to the "sacrament", then you can be satisfied with this novel, if you want to know about the fate of Liv Adamsen more, you have to probably pick up the sequel THE KEY.
This novel is certainly not great literature, but a thriller -with the usual Logiklücken- who lets a barely catch his breath and safely therefore all fans of Dan Brown and which is recommended by video clips. Furthermore, the action erthält a twist that will appeal to every feminist.
Adieu!
