Prince of Persia (video game)

Customer Review

The Prince has a problem. Not only that he has during a sandstorm disoriented and fell into a canyon, no, as if that were not enough, is still off his ass. And the fact that that was loaded with a huge pile of gold from the ancient tombs around the corner, rankles the adventurer course especially.

First of all, however: No, it's not the prince of the three predecessors. He had had its day, according to Ubisoft, and has now been replaced by another. This is that the player is already clear in the first few minutes, a man about how he appears in the book, with flapsiger language, and certainly not of blue blood. He meets on the lookout for his donkey - who was baptized as a sidekick to the predecessor "Farah" - the beautiful Elika who turns out to be Princess of the country through which the prince just converts. On top of that she's on the run from the captors of her father, the king. Who abandon all hope since his wife's death, and mourning afterwards memories. His country, however, is perished, citizens have migrated, the once glorious valleys and cities have fallen. But at least there is no bloodthirsty demons! At least until the Prince and Elika to enter a holy temple, and, through a series of silly coincidences that the dark god Ahriman verge is auszubüchsen from his prison. While this works for now not covered with darkness and cursed the land is nevertheless. The goal is clear: The Prince must free with Elika the many areas of the country from the shadows, and prevent the end that Ahriman enters this world.

The story appears to have been presented to the interested reader so sufficiently. Now to gameplay: In this regard, the developers have logically oriented very to the old trilogy, which means: jumping, climbing and hopping in the square. And a bit of fighting. Here, however, the proportion has been significantly scaled back: Were the skirmishes against the sand demons in the predecessors integral part of the whole, so are the sporadically placed struggles in the new game only as a stopgap between the jump passages.

Speaking of combat system: This is probably represents the biggest shortcoming in the new game reason. It's just endlangweilig. In every fight, especially in the numerous boss battles, you have to watch as the prince zoom gropes in slow motion to the opponent, although it is felt that an equal to the bone of the thumb jumps because you push so hard the Control knob. Elika is however to nothing good, as from time to time to perform a nice little combo that turns out against weak opponents magically be quite effective, and that does not make it again by itself. The rest of the time she is looking behind the Prince cover while it does the job. Here the developers have much more must flex their imagination and also have, after all, the game must necessarily stand up to the many qualities of its predecessors. And in particular the fight system it fails here just very. By itself, the violence that will please most concerned parents, kept to a minimum. No blood, no torn-off body parts such as the magnificent second part "Warrior Within". Instead, there are all opponents of "darkness", and dissolve, after they were defeated, just stop. Solely the four main bosses are for younger players might be a little creepy, designed, above all the demonic "hunter" with his monstrous scissor-like claw and the "Alchemist". Thus, the rating "from 12" fully justified by the fact that blood and offal are entirely absent, but you can expect even more recent the game also.

The rest of the gameplay is during which nothing less than a feast for the eyes. In the huge, from the outset freely accessible world, the player seems like on a giant adventure playground. Swings, ramps, slides - all there! However one wishes but sometimes some of the straightness of the predecessor back. With such a large game world as can be annoying described backtracking sometimes occurring namely all already. However, it is possible to back with Elika assistance between the already liberated areas within a few seconds and herzuspringen. This is sorely needed, because you would have the numerous partly endless long jump passages completely each time through anew, one would probably no time to pepper the controller with Schmackes against the wall.

Away from the "ordinary" acrobatics as wall and ceiling running, hopping and columns combo jumps et cetera, the new game but also a lot of fresh wind. Using four magical powers, which are dedicated to the "good" God Ormazd to Elika and the Prince in particular colored platforms can collect, among other things in the air, in good German so fly, and make giant leaps. May sound stupid, but here actually reveals the greatest feature of the series: When the two heroes only climb on the wall, then perform a giant leap to a distant platform, there slide down a steep ramp and in between dodging aggressive opponent, only to equal to put it to the next seven-league step comes allerbestes Mirror's Edge-Feeling on.

Finally, one more thing: What has surprised me in the first few hours, but in retrospect, very enthusiastic, is the fresh new characterization of the prince. Was his alter ego in the predecessors a bitter warrior who chased by monsters, sought to change his fate, the new hero is like someone who just has the best day of his life. Almost everything that he gives of itself is either traversed by raven black humor or honest enthusiasm. The grandiose German synchronization of course some skin out. An example about which I had very smile: The two heroes have just liberated an area, and Elika says: "Well, that was worth it!". Then the prince said merely: "Yes, as much as coated with chocolate break in a harem!".

CONCLUSION:

The new Prince of Persia has become in itself a pretty good game. The hopping and climbing documents have everything its predecessors so awesome made differently, plus some spectacular innovations. The heroes are sympathetic, and the colorful graphics and the almost non-existent violence make the game as a birthday gift for younger interesting. Solely the combat system gets almost all the hard spanking session. Unfortunately, you can not simply bypass occurring opponents, why is a point deduction more than justified here.
