The Sony Xperia U convinced at all levels

After my first generation iPhone after years of intensive use up the ghost 3 weeks ago, I went on a search for an alternative. A new iPhone I did not want more, even though I was using the old more than happy. After some research I came across the Sony Xperia models. Originally I wanted to get the Xperia P, despite its aluminum shell and White Magic technology I have but then decided for the Xperia U. For me it's because of its compact construction handy, provides sufficient performance (less than a year ago was this superclass) and covers my needs completely off.

Delivery: Smartphone, 2 exchange cover in pink and yellow, battery, earphone, USB charging cable, power supply and MicroSlM adapter.

Why choose the Xperia U?

- The minimalist design (like from a few differences its larger sibling Xperia P and Xperia S)
- The flawless workmanship
- The high quality feel (plastic is not the same as plastic)
- The low weight (110 grams scarce)
- The very good Reception and voice quality
- The user-friendly, clear operation and configuration
- The 3.5-inch display (iPhone size) presents the colors brilliant and responded excellently to the movements of the fingers (the difference from the 4-inch display of the Xperia P is marginal)
- The latest Android operating system runs absolutely smoothly, no dropouts so far (soon to an update on "Ice Cream Sandwich" follow)
- The 5 megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor shoots good photos and captures video smoothly, even in low light conditions (for clarity I have uploaded some pictures); the very short shutter lag and extensive setting
- The very sensitive aGPS receiver
- The wireless receiver has a stable and surprisingly good connection
- The music player provides a like Sony expects detailed and dynamic sound (Caution can not play WMA music files!)
(Any commercially available earphones and / or headphones can be connected without any problems) The 3.5 mm jack -
- The built-in speakers is good and (but please do not expect high-end system) loud enough
- Replaceable battery with 1320 mAh (that of the Xperia P battery has 1305 mAh) provides acceptable operation time (WLAN, GPRS, aGPS should be turned off when not in use, as this receiver, next to the display, one of the largest energy consumers of smartphones include)

What speaks against the Xperia U?

- The 8 GB memory (of which 4 GB available for all types of files actually) is not expandable
- The lack of support for USB On-The-Go
- The HDMI output, contrary to the description on the product page of Amazon does not exist
- Only 512 MB RAM memory

My conclusion: Sony Xperia U is a powerful smartphone for "beginners" at an excellent price-performance ratio. The 1GHz dual-core processor ensures a smooth and brisk work. The display stands out positively by rich colors, detail and good contrast. The results of the camera can be proud, thrilled the sound of music player. Due to the puny space it remains only partially recommended for users with large data archives. And the best is, as always, at the end: You can make calls with it.

Important Update: The Xperia U support but USB On-The-Go. This Nokia USB OTG adapter CA-157 for example, can be connected if required, an external USB storage. With a 2GB USB flash drive of Toshiba there were no problems. On the other hand, a 32GB USB flash drive from Transcend did not openable, since it has a high power consumption. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files could be "Premium Olive Office" viewed and edited with the free. The playback of the movie in MP4 format was carried out perfectly.
