The basic story is nothing wildly original: a beautiful princess fierce, feisty and disobedient, chosen instead of his sister to be offered in marriage to a God-King enemy - to delay the war between the two kingdoms - and older sister, spared, decided to start after her to save her from this fatal destiny. This is a common situation in the fantasy books. Reading is nice, and we say we go for a book plane-plane, a little phoned but in which we feel good.
And then ... quickly, Brandon Sanderson surprises the reader with humor, one of the Gods doubt of his divinity, mercenaries are not what we expect of them, the situation of the two princesses, the and married the eldest, is proving quite different from what one could expect, and the magic that encompasses all that is, as usual with this author, completely original (despite the similarities with "Black Prism" Brent Weeks) and a flawless logic.
Until the end, the author takes the opposite to drive. As soon as we think we know something about a character, as soon as we understand it, Sanderson, a delicious spin, we did not know that he remains the master of the game and the story. Besides a very subtle mise-en-abyss of one of the supposed powers of the Gods, which is absolutely not see coming!
In short, everything I like: reading this book is exciting, well-built and constantly surprising, I warmly recommends you ...!
