'm Just getting used to the operation, have a long-time BlackBerry Bold 9000 users so that at the moment but still problems, especially with the email handling. The following criticisms I have been able to find out (all software):
- In the BB I see every email, incoming and outgoing, in a folder, Outgoing have a hook in front of it. That's very clear, without having to switch between Inbox and Outbox and should toggle. Have at least the possibility found 'all mail' to switch to IMAP folders because my sent email will be listed with my name as the sender. Although this fulfills the purpose, but is not as clear as in the BB.
- The great preview window to allow it to read emails and browse in the e-mail notification, I quickly turned off. A smartphone display is now times too small to use this feature to make sense. Too bad it was invested with security much programming work that would elsewhere invested better.
- A writing email is far too expensive. Why do I need the CC window can always only appear with a separate action, in everyday work, there is almost no email, to which no one is copied? In the BB CC window is always present, only BCC must be activated with a separate action, that's right. The selection window for the e-mail addressed to impressive levels but that possible recipients are not only displayed alphabetically by name, but probably also sorted by frequency, an advantage especially for people with extensive contact databases (almost 5,000) in my case.
- Gmail !! is not usable, crashes when I want to change the accounts ?? And this on a Google Android Phone: -O? Is this a joke (have updated to the latest software via the PC Companion)?
Now for the positives:
The main reason for me to buy this phone, the keyboard is a piece of cake! I'm no lightweight, and have relatively strong hands, but could always quite good with the BlackBerry Bold. Except for the additional movement unfold the keyboard, the keyboard of the Xperia is definitely better. Disadvantage: You need at least two hands to hold and touch, to hold a manual method the BB in the right palm and typing with your thumb (slowly) messages, works thus no longer well. This possibly is not all that bad, then you hear the last e-mail, tap some contemporaries while driving on ;-) ....
The camera is very good, also convince the colors. Did they immediately 2M 16: 9 asked (who needs 8M photos?), So each snapshot is approximately 400-500 kb in size, and convinces with a lot of details and high image quality. With activate flash IMO succeed in normal room lighting quite good images, the colors are then actually quite natural.
The battery life is for me but still getting used to, because I'm probably a bit spoiled by the BB? Of course it is no wonder that with constant use keeps just one day because the equipment is relatively warm during operation, even if only two or three apps simultaneously potter. Somewhere the energy must come indeed, might be a more modern dual core processor but here the advantage was? Are there any apps that allow you to throttle the CPU, for example, for certain apps to run in the background? I'm going to test the 'Juice Saver' more accurately, my first impression was that he just thereby saving power off with the reception: O ?? What I did then a smartphone?
But all in all a very nice phone, with all the advantages of a modern androids, such as
- Wi-Fi access point for third (my son loves it, now he can surf on my company-Flat, when he is traveling with me)
-. Thousands of useful apps, including blitzer.de, VNC for Android (to my server to control at home), Qype, Google Maps with navigation function, Geo Cache app AndroXplorer for direct file access on my Win7 Server, etc ,
- DLNA Media Server
etc.
For me, the BlackBerry has certainly had its day, what I miss is now only someone of an app writes the (brilliantly simple, clear) e-mail operating concept of the BlackBerry on the Android platform brings: -D! Now times have K9-Mail installed, the free version of it, and after some parameterization is very neat, almost BlackBerry Feeling ;-) ....
UPDATE 27/01/2012:
I'm still very happy with the phone, but am looking forward to future dual-core versions (appropriate models have just been unveiled at CES, but still without a keyboard; more than [...], the site of fans of the Xperia series) especially since I now more than 5,000 corporate customers have saved as contacts on my phone, and some functions are therefore very slow. Also I have the phone now rooted, and Facebook and other garbage away. This frees memory, and actually extends the battery life when 'background traffic' is enabled.
For improved battery management, I use the 'Juice Saver' which is actually very good, or more recently on the App 'SetXperia', with which you can directly influence the CPU performance. In 'safe' mode, the phone stops by up to 4 days without recharging, but then reacts quite slowly, one should reduce the number of active apps possible.
To extend the somewhat limited ROM of the phone I use the app 'SDLink' that allows the SD card to create a 1 GB partition, which is seen by the phone as additional ROM. So you can then install apps to a dizzy, but you should use a fast SD card (ideally a Class 10). The app requires root also, unfortunately, that's the Xperia Pro almost a necessity for professional use, the CPU and the memory were just already out of date when the telephone (finally) came on the market :-( ....
But this is all acceptable and the phone does a lot of joy, a real pain are actually only sometimes disconnects the Bluetooth hands-free device in the car (VW), when too many apps running simultaneously (blitzer.de, Navi, etc.). It seems as if the CPU no longer enough power to have the Bluetooth communication to maintain, and the phone falls out. A remedy for 'SetXperia' profile 'Fast' (full CPU power), but then you should hang on the charging cable, or disable the 'background traffic', whatever relieves the CPU.
Still, I would buy the phone again and again, it is a giant step forward to my BlackBerry, and I am looking forward to the next version, with dual-core CPU, more memory, and a 12 MP camera :-) ...... more so, SONY !!!
UPDATE 30/12/2012:
Have now update more satisfied on ICS 4.0.4, and am now. The update allows you to search through my 4,000 customers to query me at last, for example, by company name. Even switching between my three e-mail accounts work now, Gmail no longer crashes finally :-) ....
Still, I'm no root access and the App SDLink still not made, the memory is too small. And the single core can sometimes wait a quite a while :-(. Also the conflict between Bluetooth and mobile hotspot persists, which may be due to the weak processor?
SONY, when will the Xperia Pro II? I would order it in advance blindly, and, to 600 - to pay for it!
